Simultaneously, it appeared that Isobel could be Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev)’s biological mother, introducing an intriguing twist in our search and enriching Elena’s backstory even further.

After Damon admits to Alaric that he was the cause of Isobel’s demise, Alaric moves towards the vampire, prepared to kill him. He pleads for information about his wife’s whereabouts while Damon goads him further by stating that Isobel had asked him to transform her into a vampire. In the end, it is Alaric who gets stabbed with his own stake and lies bleeding on the floor of the Salvatore residence. However, the ring from Isobel that he always wore miraculously brings him back to life, with Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) watching in astonishment. This could be one of those events you may have overlooked given all the subsequent developments throughout Season 1.

This time, it’s not Damon who’s the target, but someone else is after him, and unfortunately, I happened to be in the line of fire. In the episode titled “Crying Wolf,” I’m not supposed to be the one taking the bullet, but thanks to the Gilbert ring, I manage to stay alive even when a pack of werewolves storms the Salvatore house.

Later on, I get stabbed, this time by a ravenous werewolf seeking a mysterious stone, the moonstone, needed to lift the curse. The audience doesn’t witness the act on-screen, but Damon hears the chaos and walks in just as I collapse to the floor. The werewolves assume I’m dead due to their lack of knowledge about my magical ring.

At the close of the episode, Alaric stirs from unconsciousness as Damon cleans up the living room following an ordeal that involved torture. He spots a blood-stained rug and proceeds to roll it up and put it away. He finds himself in a position where he must deceive Jenna, Elena’s aunt, about his whereabouts since they were supposed to meet, but at the time, he was actually deceased. Instead, he claims he was merely sleeping, which is yet another untruth he has to tell her. This is one more secret he confides in Damon before the vampire wounds him.

Alaric dies three times in the first half of TVD Season 3…

In the third season of “The Vampire Diaries,” as rated best on IMDb, Alaric meets an untimely demise not once, but six times. Yet, its powers seem weaker than usual. Despite sustaining severe injuries such as internal bleeding and fractured ribs, he miraculously recovers while receiving treatment at the hospital.

Three episodes on, in “Bringing Out The Dead,” Elena comes home to discover Alaric has been wounded by a knife. Despite this, he’s still conscious and pleads with Elena to end his life so his ring can resurrect him. It transpires that the assailant hunting council members is none other than Alaric himself, but due to his repeated deaths and resurrections, a darker side of him has emerged, one which he sometimes fails to recall its actions. This dark aspect becomes a persistent problem in the second part of the season.

…And three more times in the last four episodes of Season 3

In the final four episodes of Season 3 of “The Vampire Diaries,” Alaric dies on three separate occasions. During Episode 19, titled “Heart of Darkness,” Alaric is confined in the basement of the Salvatore residence, and his captors search for a white oak stake hidden by a darker aspect of him, which could be used to slay an Original vampire. Klaus, another Original vampire played by Joseph Morgan, arrives with similar concerns about the missing stake, and as a means to hasten the process, he brutally snaps Alaric’s neck.

One episode on, in “Do Not Go Gentle,” Esther (Alice Evans), mom of the OG vamps, sets out to transform me into a super vampire slayer. She whips up a spell, plunges a knife into me – yep, she offs me so I can rise as an Original and wage war against the bloodsuckers. Coming back from the dead left me baffled, since I don’t have my ring, but the sinister side in me soon took over, and I was on the hunt for vamps.

In the Season 3 finale titled “The Departed,” Alaric sets out to capture Originals, but it’s Elena who ultimately brings him down. During a spell cast by Esther, Alaric was transformed into an Original using Elena’s blood, creating a connection between their vital energies. This meant that if Elena perished, so would Alaric. Tragically, Elena and Matt were involved in a car accident, leaving Elena critically injured and on the brink of death. A doctor saved her life by administering vampire blood, but it was too late for Alaric; he expired, becoming a ghost that only Jeremy could see.

Legacies — Season 4, Episode 5

Throughout the four seasons of the spin-off series “Legacies,” Alaric narrowly escapes death multiple times at the hands of various supernatural beings. However, it’s a severe head injury that ultimately leads to his demise within the “Vampire Diaries” universe.

In the fifth episode of “Legacies” Season 4, titled “I Thought You’d Be Happier To See Me,” Alaric encounters Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell), the daughter of the original vampire Klaus. She used to be a student at the Salvatore Boarding School. In an unexpected turn of events, she severely attacks Alaric, leaving him unconscious on the street as a warning to her associates now that her humanity switch is turned off. Upon hearing their father is undergoing surgery, his daughters Josie (Kaylee Bryant) and Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) rush to the hospital. The cause of Alaric’s death appears routine since it’s a traumatic brain injury, which is a recurring theme in “Legacies.” Adult viewers may notice this pattern more readily in the series.

Despite appearing deceased due to a supernatural injury causing brain death, Alaric is not technically dead. Instead, he exists in a sort of limbo state, teetering on the brink of passing over into the afterlife.
