Rachel Zegler is poised to captivate viewers this weekend as Snow White in Disney’s live-action reboot of their beloved animated movie. However, if it weren’t for the Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg, she might not have gotten the part. In the new Disney adaptation, Zegler shares the screen with Gal Gadot as the Wicked Queen. While the film has received positive early reviews, its estimated opening weekend earnings of $48-$58 million are significantly less than its $250 million budget.
Earlier this week, on Jimmy Kimmel Live! (as seen below), Zegler shared that it was Spielberg who suggested her for Disney and Snow White’s director, Marc Webb. This came about after her performance in his 2021 adaptation of West Side Story. She explained to Kimmel: “I received a very positive endorsement from Steven Spielberg.” Furthermore, she hinted that Spielberg might have informed her privately about the role before Disney made it official.
In addition, I received a message from Steven suggesting that I may have already secured the role before I found out for sure. I then wished him a Happy Father’s Day, as is customary, and he responded with numerous apple emojis. It seemed like he was dropping hints about my casting, similar to how Taylor Swift uses Easter eggs.
