Hulu has canceled its comedy series How to Die Alone after one season.
Approximately four and a half months following the conclusion of the series produced by and featuring Natasha Rothwell, which was broadcast on the streaming platform, comes the announcement. The series, which is owned by Onyx Collective – a company similar to Hulu, as both belong to Disney – has now concluded its eight-episode season.
The movie “How to Die Alone” features Rothwell as a “broke, overweight, African-American employee at JFK Airport who has never experienced love and lost touch with dreaming, until an unexpected near-death experience propels her on a voyage to live life to the fullest, no matter what it takes.” Alongside Rothwell are Conrad Ricamora, Jocko Sims, and KeiLyn Durrel Jones.
Rothwell expressed on Instagram that she’ll make efforts to relocate the show, stating, “This is difficult to grasp… My heart goes out to the fantastic cast, team, and scriptwriters who poured their hearts into telling this tale. I am incredibly thankful for having been given this chance, and I appreciate all the affection and backing extended to me and the series. Now, my hope is that this announcement will simply be a brief interruption in the HTDA narrative, not an end. Forward we go.
The show received widespread praise, as evidenced by Angie Han of The Hollywood Reporter describing it as “definitely a pleasant time – it’s heartwarming, amusing, and at times, genuinely inspiring.
Rothwell and Vera Santamaria shared the role of co-producers for the series “How to Die Alone“, also producing alongside Desiree Akhavan and Jude Weng as executive producers.
Variety first reported the news.
