The festivities for CinemaCon persisted in Las Vegas, Nevada on Wednesday, featuring the Universal Pictures and Focus Features Panel. With TopMob present at the occasion, Universal kicked off the event by disclosing that a second live-action film based on How To Train Your Dragon is already being developed, preceding this summer’s theater release in June.
Since I’ve been a devoted fan of DreamWorks films for quite some time, learning about the upcoming live-action adaptation has me buzzing with anticipation. The character I’m most eager to witness brought to life is none other than Hiccup’s mom, Valka. And if you recall, she was brilliantly voiced by Cate Blanchett in the 2014 animated film.
How To Train Your Dragon 2 Has Already Been Announced
In just a bit, I’ll speak with Miss Cate. Allow me to share first how Director Dean DeBlois unveiled the sequel to CinemaCon attendees:
For the very first time, a live-action dragon film graces the silver screen, but mark my words, this isn’t going to be our last magical flight! We can’t wait to share with you that How To Train Your Dragon 2 is set to take off in theaters on June 11, 2027.
At CinemaCon, attendees kicked off their mornings by watching the premiere of the live-action version of How To Train Your Dragon. This film has already garnered positive feedback from viewers. Our very own Jessica Rawden described it as “perfectly embodying what a live-action remake should be: humorous, heartfelt, and poignant – all while being grand in scale.” Other initial responses labeled it as “breathtaking,” “charming,” and some even shed tears of emotion.
I’m Going To Need Cate Blanchett To Join Live-Action Berk
The confirmation of a follow-up film indicates a massive belief by Universal in the movie’s summer success, yet it’s hard to stop pondering over Cate Blanchett potentially voicing another character from the How To Train Your Dragon series in real life again.
In an upcoming film set to hit screens within two months, Gerard Butler reprises his role as Hiccup’s father, Stoick, in live-action. He described the costume and beard as a “fivefold ordeal,” and it appears they endured frigid conditions during production. However, based on the account, it seems like the hardship could have been justified.
In the second installment of “How To Train Your Dragon,” five years have passed since the initial film’s events. At this point, Hiccup is now 20 years old and his friendship with Toothless leads them to an exciting new adventure. During this journey, they reconnect with Hiccup’s long-lost mother and face off against a relentless dragon hunter named Drago Bludvist, portrayed by Djimon Hounsou.
