Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif-led Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara won’t have a sequel? Reema Kagti says ‘People might think…’

Fans of Bollywood are excited for a follow-up to Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, but writer-director Reema Kagti has a more thoughtful outlook on the matter. Renowned for her deep storytelling and exceptional scriptwriting, Kagti has been involved in popular films like Gully Boy, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Dil Dhadakne Do, and Made in Heaven. In a recent interview, she hinted that some might perceive her as somewhat arrogant, but she believes a sequel to Hrithik Roshan’s movie should only be pursued if an exceptionally strong concept arises.

In a recent chat on Zoom, Reema Kagti unequivocally expressed her disapproval of remaking the beloved movie “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.” If asked about a project that deserves to stay untouched, she was resolute in her opinion.

In her role as the scriptwriter for the movie, she admitted that some could perceive her viewpoint as biased because she collaborated with Zoya Akhtar on its creation. Yet, under the constant demand for a sequel, she suggested that it would be wiser to keep the film intact—unless an exceptionally powerful concept arises.

Reema Kagti voiced worries over certain industry customs that she thinks need to be changed. Specifically addressing the problem of insufficient recognition for writers, she noted that this issue extends beyond writers themselves, affecting crew members, department heads, and vital team members as well.

She found this absence of recognition quite concerning, underscoring the significance of crediting people fairly for their efforts on their work. Additionally, she pointed out a widespread misunderstanding within the field, where figures like producers, senior writers, and directors often believe that merely engaging in discussions equals writing, while the true author’s contributions are frequently overlooked.

Disputing that notion, Kagti stated, “It seems you’re claiming credit for someone else’s work. Therefore, let me make a suggestion: We should address issues like this and give proper credit where it is due.

In a previous chat, TopMob asked Farhan Akhtar if there could be a sequel to Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Laughingly, he hinted that since ‘Dobara’ was already in the title, they were finding it challenging to name the second part even though they had a story planned out.

In a jovial manner, he pointed out that it was unprecedented in movie-making history for a title dispute to delay a follow-up film. Yet, transitioning to a more somber note, Farhan recognized the intense desire among viewers for a continuation, underscoring the fact that the movie holds a special place in their hearts.
