Hrithik Roshan would travel by bus, train and share room with 4 people on Karan Arjun set reveals Rakesh Roshan: ‘I told him to join…’

As a dedicated follower of Bollywood and a student of its rich history, I find myself captivated by the journey of Rakesh Roshan and his talented family, particularly his son Hrithik Roshan. The story of Karan Arjun, a film that has stood the test of time, is not only a testament to Rakesh Roshan’s visionary directing but also to Hrithik’s humble beginnings in the industry.

Right now, Rakesh Roshan is preparing for the second launch of his popular movie, Karan Arjun, starring Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. This well-known director’s son, Hrithik Roshan, who is also an actor, worked as an assistant director on this film. Not long ago, the filmmaker disclosed that his son would take the train or bus, share a room with four people while working on the movie sets.

During a chat with Indian Express’ SCREEN, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan shared that his son Hrithik Roshan had an opportunity to study overseas. When asked about his preference, the star of War 2 expressed his desire to become an actor. In response, the director of Karan Arjun suggested he should work with someone first. However, Hrithik insisted on joining him instead.

The director of Karan Arjun mentioned that he made someone feel a bit uneasy. Despite sharing breakfast at the same table on our way to the studio, I traveled by car while he took the bus. This pattern persisted even on the return trip. Since he was traveling with the crew for three films, not just one, he had to commute by train, share a room with four others, and stay with them.

During an exclusive conversation with TopMob, the director shared that Hrithik played a significant role in Karan Arjun. He admitted that at the time, he didn’t consider his son as an actor but more like a highly intelligent assistant. Roshan explained that they would frequently discuss each scene together and often took his perspective into account.

According to Roshan, he provided numerous suggestions about the structure and specific shots of the screenplay, showing great enthusiasm for the project. In essence, he acted as my right-hand man, offering significant assistance.

Just a few days ago, I found myself reminiscing as Karan Arjun’s re-release was announced. I shared the trailer on my social media and was instantly transported back to that afternoon in 1992 (or so I recall), when we gathered around my father’s living room, collaborating with the writers on the script for Karan Arjun. After yet another prolonged silence in the room – these pauses could sometimes last over 10-15 minutes – my father suddenly broke the silence with “I have an idea!” He then proceeded to describe the rhythm of the interval fight sequence, and as he spoke, his enthusiasm grew to a climax. At the peak of his excitement, he exclaimed, “And then Arjun screams ‘Run, Arjun!!’ – bhaaaaaag अर्जुन!!!

At age 17, I felt my very first rush of audience excitement!!! My hair bristled, the room erupted like a cinema hall!! From that moment on, I was hooked!! And it was then that I knew deep within me that this movie would be a massive hit!! Fast forward 30 years, I eagerly anticipate the return of Karan Arjun to cinemas worldwide starting November 22nd, 2024.
