HUF and Kodak's Capsule is For All the Film Photography Enthusiasts

As a photographer who grew up with the golden age of film photography, I must say that the HUF x Kodak collection has struck a chord within me. It’s like stepping back into the 90s, the era when my passion for capturing moments began. The vintage graphics and the incorporation of actual film photographs in the prints are a delightful throwback to the days when Polaroids were the coolest thing on the block.

In partnership with photography icon Kodak, HUF has revealed an exclusive line featuring clothing, accessories, skateboards, and even a custom-made camera model. This collaborative endeavor celebrates the artistry of film photography, a tradition that began to wane with the advent of digital photography’s convenience.

In the 20th century, film photography was widely used for preserving memories, but it’s now mostly a specialized field for photographers who appreciate the medium. Lately, though, there’s been a significant resurgence of interest in film photography, with members of Gen Z and Millennials rediscovering old cameras that were once abandoned by previous generations. The distinctive, nostalgic feel of film photos and the thoughtful process involved in taking and developing them have made it fashionable again among digital natives.

In their designs, collaborators emphasize the nostalgic charm of the medium by reviving old Kodak graphic styles and blending actual film photography into the final prints. The “Imagine What” t-shirt showcases several gritty, vintage photos arranged in a collage, encircled by Kodak’s retro typography promoting 400 ISO film. On the other hand, the “Rear View” tee spotlights a single image on its front and sports expanded Kodak graphics on the backside. Unique items such as The Collage Side Bag and its complementing Cruiser Deck are entirely adorned with a vibrant mosaic of film photographs.

In other areas, this collection adopts a photo-less strategy, featuring large and eye-catching collaborative branding. The Dark Room Jacquard Knit Sweater, uniquely, incorporates Kodak symbols and HUF logos into a recurring intricate knitted pattern. The range shifts towards styles reminiscent of motorsports, spearheaded by the Pole Position Racing Jacket, which seems to have been plucked straight from a racing track.

The star attraction of this collection is the compact Kodak Ektar H35N half-frame camera, which captures twice as many images as a standard film camera due to its unique design. Mimicking a mid-century style, this pocket-friendly device sports a shiny HUF green front panel and accessories adorned with the HUF logo.

The HUF x Kodak collection is available now at HUF’s web store and physical boutiques.
