As a long-time gamer and comic book fan, I can’t help but feel nostalgic as I recall the journey of Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds’ iconic Marvel characters, Deadpool and Wolverine, on the big screen. I still remember watching X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009 with a mix of excitement and disappointment. While it may not have been one of our favorite X-Men movies, for Ryan Reynolds, it holds a special place in his heart.

Prior to the production of “Deadpool & Wolverine” as the latest Marvel films, the comic book personas of Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds had a lengthy history together on screen. Do you recall 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”? Although it is not one of our preferred “X-Men” movies, Reynolds looks back at that set with nostalgia.

Before becoming famous as Deadpool’s actor in his movies, Reynolds was originally chosen to play Wade Wilson in a Marvel film from the late 2000s that focused on Logan’s origins. With the approaching release of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Ryan Reynolds recalled an extraordinary experience while filming the X-Men spinoff set.

On my first day, Hugh asked me how I felt after wrapping up, and I replied that I wished I could go back and redo an earlier scene. Suddenly, everyone was called back to set, lights were turned on, and costumes adjusted. Hugh made it happen without knowing me well. I was in awe, thinking if I ever got the chance to be in his presence, this is how he conducts himself. Even now, I’m still amazed – we’re friends, yet I can still marvel at “That’s Hugh Jackman, wow.” The novelty never fades.

In an interview with The New York Times, Ryan Reynolds shared that Hugh Jackman left a significant impact on him during their early careers. Reynolds explained that although they hadn’t met each other before, Jackman went out of his way to help him by arranging for a scene reshoot at Reynold’s request.

Fifteen years have passed since I first met Hugh Jackman on the set of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. His presence left an indelible impression on me – humility radiated from him like a beacon, a trait I hadn’t encountered in such abundance within Hollywood before. And yes, I’ve poked fun at that 2009 production, jokingly referring to it as a “raging inferno of trash.” But let’s face it, without X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the magical pairing of Deadpool and Wolverine might have never seen the light of day.

Jackman and Reynolds now have creative control over their Marvel characters, but during an interview, they reminisced about not having any input during the early days. Jackman explained that when he filmed the first “X-Men” movie, it was his first experience making a film in America. At the time of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” Reynolds had some Hollywood experience with “Blade: Trinity” in 2004, but he wasn’t yet the producer and writer he is today for “Deadpool” movies and other projects like “The Adam Project” and “Free Guy.”

Before the release of “Deadpool & Wolverine” in theaters on July 26, Marvel’s Kevin Feige has expressed his excitement about the movie. He described it as “extremely emotional” and “the most heartwarming R-rated film you’ll ever come across.” This project has been a long time in the making, and Reynolds was just as eager to collaborate with Jackman on this film as we are to see them team up.
