In a different phrasing: Hugh Jackman has sported some incredibly memorable facial hair for various roles in the past, with Logan’s impressive muttonchops from the X-Men series being particularly well-known. However, his latest character makeover could outshine them all – or at least require its own dedicated beard care product! Jackman recently shared a sneak peek of his upcoming film, and it showcases him sporting a mustache so daring that it seems to warrant its own Screen Actors Guild membership… but this isn’t for an upcoming Marvel movie.
The initial glimpse we get is from a post that was shared on the verified Instagram account of the Australian actor. In this post, Jackman showcased a fitting and makeup trial for an upcoming movie by A24 titled “The Death of Robin Hood“. Thus, his complete metamorphosis, including the notably untamed, curled mustache, is now visible to all.

In a touching message, Jackman expresses his gratitude to the team behind “The Death of Robin Hood” movie, praising their camaraderie and shared spirit. He also pens a heartfelt letter to the land where it was filmed, Ireland, acknowledging its breathtaking beauty with no limits. Here’s how he put it:
“I want to extend my deepest thanks to the entire cast and crew of The Death of Robin Hood. Their dedication and teamwork left an indelible mark on me. This filming experience has been nothing short of honorable and privileged. Ireland, you are a sight to behold! Your beauty transcends all boundaries.
The actor from Australia, in addition, posted some stunningly beautiful set footage, including images of Ireland’s scenic filming spots and a selfie showcasing an impressive mustache. Frankly, this top-tier celebrity never disappoints when it comes to facial hair, and I’m consistently impressed by the versatility of his mustache – ranging from stylish to eccentric.
Regarding the movie itself, I understand your skepticism – another Robin Hood film might make you squint an eye or two. However, before dismissing it as just another tights-and-merry-men rehash, consider this: The Death of Robin Hood appears to be targeting a darker and more thoughtful narrative.
Directing this film is Michael Sarnoski, the talented mind behind “Pig,” a movie that hints at a brooding, emotional, and somewhat unconventional atmosphere. Sarnoski himself penned the script and boasts an impressive crew by his side. The narrative is said to center around a weary Robin Hood, scarred from past battles, who encounters a mysterious woman. Alongside Jackman and Comer in this cast are Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett from “The White Lotus,” and the rising star Noah Jupe.

The release date for “The Death of Robin Hood” hasn’t been announced yet, but since filming is completed and sneak peeks are being released, it seems like it won’t be long before this movie hits theaters. Although it might not make it to the 2025 movie lineup, it has certainly found a place on my list of most eagerly awaited films. One point worth mentioning is that Hugh Jackman’s beard continues to reign supreme. Frankly speaking, with his ongoing commitment to Marvel and Disney, it looks like he’ll be sporting mutton chops well into his nineties!
In the meantime, before we hear further updates about “The Death of Robin Hood”, why not rewatch Hugh Jackman’s memorable portrayal of Logan/Weapon X? You can do so by streaming all his nail-twirling performances using your Disney+ membership.
