Hysteria!: Bruce Campbell Calls Peacock's Satanic Panic Series "Cool Horror With a Twist"

As a long-time fan who has witnessed Bruce Campbell‘s transformation from the iconic Ash Williams to Chief Dandridge in Peacock’s retro satanic panic series, Hysteria!, I am absolutely thrilled at the prospect of this new adventure. Having grown up in the 80s and being a Michigan native myself, the setting and time period alone have me hooked. The star-studded cast, including Bruce Campbell, Julie Bowen, Anna Camp, and many others, promises an exciting ride filled with suspense, humor, and the supernatural.

For three movies and three TV seasons, Bruce Campbell waged war against evil as one of the most iconic pop culture heroes ever: Ash Williams from the Evil Dead franchise. Now, he’s gearing up to take on this challenge once more, but with a completely new character, in Peacock’s Hysteria! – a series set in the 1980s that revolves around a small town called Happy Hollow, which is plagued by strange supernatural occurrences.

The character played by Campbell, who frequently appears as a guest star, is depicted as the town’s police chief. His familiarity with his community is challenged following a string of unsettling murders, disappearances, and inexplicable occurrences, as hinted at in the character description revealed last spring when the actor from Evil Dead officially joined the series.

At San Diego Comic-Con last month, there was an opportunity to stay updated with ComicBook.com, where Campbell hinted at the eagerly awaited project as having a “unique blend of horror and surprise.” However, the actor seemed cautious about revealing too much, mentioning that he might face reprimands for disclosing spoilers. He then hinted at the Satanic Panic era serving as the setting for the story’s unfolding.

He went on to explain, “What makes this horror series intriguing is that it combines psychological and demonic elements. It’s set in a small rural town in Michigan, where I play Chief Dandridge during the late ’80s. What drew me to it were the words themselves. In today’s industry, if someone proposes a new horror project, I might be hesitant. But these words were captivating. They developed a well-rounded character and an engaging setting for this town.”

Besides Campbell, the cast of “Hysteria!” also boasts the acting prowess of Julie Bowen from “Modern Family,” Anna Camp from “Perfect Harmony,” Emjay Anthony known for “Chef,” Chiara Aurelia from “Fear Street: Part Two,” Kezii Curtis from “Secret Headquarters,” Nikki Hahn from “American Housewife,” Garret Dillahunt famous for “Burn Notice,” Nolan North recognized for “Uncharted,” Elijah Richardson of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” Milly Shapiro who starred in “Hereditary,” Allison Scagliotti from “Warehouse 13,” and Jessica Treska, a cast member of “Sharp Objects.”

When does Hysteria! premiere?

On Friday, October 18th, all eight, one-hour long episodes of the series “Hysteria!” will debut on Peacock. Interestingly, the first episode is also scheduled to be aired simultaneously on USA Network and SYFY that very same day. Remarkably, USA Network will air new episodes every week following this initial broadcast.

Skull Island,” who also serves as an executive producer alongside co-creators Matthew Scott Kane and David A. Goodman.
