As a long-time fan of Marvel’s intricate narrative tapestry and someone who has spent countless hours dissecting every frame for hidden clues, I find the mystery surrounding Sparky’s fate to be as captivating as Wanda’s ever-evolving hex.
Spoilers below for anyone who isn’t caught up on Agatha All Along through its sixth episode, so be warned if you’re falling behind!
In the story “Familiar By Thy Side,” Billy Maximoff’s origins are revealed, paving the way for the Young Avengers to potentially appear in future Marvel TV shows and movies. However, as the saying goes, you can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs – or in this case, cracking up fans with the return of Evan Peters’ character Ralph Bohner. This comeback was truly spectacular, providing significant and genuinely chilling background to the most memorable joke from “WandaVision.
After being freed from Agatha’s spell, Ralph has evidently been on high alert in the years following, as shown by his creation of witch repellents and other protective charms. Yet, despite this heightened sense of danger, he didn’t abandon his acting aspirations, as demonstrated by his one-man show in Paramus, New Jersey. This only served to deepen the mystery surrounding his character in WandaVision, and his comment following the confession about poisoning the dog left me quite intrigued. Here are my two main questions arising from this surprising comeback that I’d like to explore.
Was Ralph Bohner’s Witness Protection Storyline Ignored, Or Is He Just Extremely Terrible At Staying HIdden?
For anyone who might have overlooked the enigma surrounding the witness protection individual in ‘WandaVision’, let me remind you that it was this very mystery that led Randall Park’s character, Jimmy Woo, to Westview initially. Although the series concluded with that thread left somewhat unresolved, a scene previously cut from the final edit was revealed prior to the Blu-ray launch, shedding light on this intriguing detail: Evan Peters’ character was actually the missing person in question, and was wearing an ankle monitor likely as part of a pre-trial supervision program.
In the finale of “WandaVision,” it remains uncertain whether “Ralph Bohner” represented his fresh persona or his long-standing one. Given that the house bore the Bohner name and he had actor headshots under that moniker, there’s speculation that he was trying to adopt a new identity for his career in theater. However, being a well-known figure could pose challenges for him in this endeavor.
However, the show “Agatha All Along” appeared to challenge this notion by introducing one of the funniest visual jokes yet: Kathryn Hahn donning a Bohner Family Reunion shirt. This clothing choice seems to suggest that Ralph Bohner was indeed the character’s birth name, unless she had the shirt custom-made to provide a backstory detail for…perhaps some criminal organizations searching for her, I suppose.
Given how implausible that scenario appears, it seems logical to conclude that Ralph may be unaware of the intricacies of witness protection, and hasn’t received any assistance from the authorities in staying concealed. While it’s possible the headshot photos were kept as mementos, this doesn’t account for why he continues to receive bills and correspondence addressed to “Ralph Bohner.” In essence, it appears Ralph is struggling to navigate life effectively.
As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but share my thoughts on the mind-blowing twist in Agatha All Along. Everyone’s buzzing about it, but there are some big questions swirling around Rio that I just can’t shake off.
In a rather comical twist, even his solitary attempt to conceal his real name proved futile when he asked Billy to refer to him as “Ralph,” only to correct himself moments later and clarify that his actual name was “Randall.” However, it remains unclear whether this change in alias had any connection to the supposed identity swap or if it was merely an impulsive, yet misguided, effort at deception. (A subtle reference to Randall Park, the actor who portrays Jimmy Woo.)
The removal of the ankle bracelet scene for Ralph Bohner from the finale might have essentially dissolved his witness protection status. With this plot point no longer serving as a challenge for showrunner Jac Schaeffer and their team, it could be that they chose to keep Ralph’s character unchanged to avoid adding even more complexity to an already intricate web of identities in this universe. While it may lack excitement, eliminating such confusion might make the storyline easier to follow overall.
Did His Confession About Poisoning Billy And Tommy’s Dog Have Further Dark Implications?
Despite Ralph’s challenging situation following his encounters in Westview, he remains informed about recent events. He informs Billy that Wanda is deceased and Agatha is residing within the town under Wanda’s influence. However, when Billy presumes this means Agatha is less dangerous than before, when she manipulated Ralph into poisoning the Maximoff family’s new dog Sparky, Evan Peters’ character corrects him, asserting that she remains a potential threat.
Heed this advice carefully: Stay clear of that area. It could potentially lead to an unfortunate outcome, such as being interred in her garden alongside her pet dog, or encountering something even more perilous! Frankly, you have no idea what sort of unusual fare she consumes each morning.
It’s possible that my interpretation might be stretching things, but since no one explicitly referred to Wanda and Vision’s house or garden during their conversation in the parking garage, it seems like Ralph could have been referring to his own property, which was the house that Agatha seized. This includes the fitness equipment (like the Bowflex) and Blu-ray collection that were once there. If this is correct, it might challenge what I thought happened to Sparky’s remains after the finale of WandaVision‘s “On a Very Special Episode…
Before the main characters argue as the credits roll, Vision walks into the house and washes his hands. He mentions getting a pet dog and having to bury it on the same day. Initially, I assumed that Paul Bettany’s character had just finished burying the dog, but perhaps this was simply a lighter portrayal of Wanda’s sitcom-like world, glossing over some deeply unsettling realities.
It appears that “Agatha All Along” implies that Agatha, portrayed by Elizabeth Olsen, was indeed responsible for the death of Mr. Hart during the peculiar dinner scene in “WandaVision.” This is just one instance where the idyllic scenes we watched contrasted sharply with the real-life events. So, it’s not entirely unexpected to speculate that no member from the Maximoff household dealt with Sparky’s remains, and instead, Agatha made Ralph bury them in his own backyard.
Additionally, since Sparky appeared to have been uniquely crafted by Hex specifically for Billy and Tommy, one might wonder what became of his physical form when Westview was liberated. Did it vanish like the twins’ bodies did, or was it already tangible in the real world under a magic enchantment? To definitively answer this question, it seems that using ground-penetrating radar to locate and identify Sparky’s remains could provide conclusive evidence.
It’s possible that we might uncover some intriguing insights from Agatha pretending to be guilty of killing Sparky in the “Agatha All Along” episode of WandaVision, with Ralph implying she forced him to confess. This could hint at Agatha’s particular affinities and her feelings towards engaging in such actions. At least, we can only pray that it implies no harmful events will befall Señor Scratchy.
Every Wednesday evening at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time, new episodes of the captivating series Agatha All Along will be available for streaming on Disney+, leaving fans guessing and second-guessing!
