The superhero genre remains incredibly influential, as numerous shared universes are consistently releasing fresh content and vying for top spot at the box office. Fans who had followed the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films sequentially were thrilled when it was announced that Harrison Ford would be part of the cast for Captain America 4, and his portrayal did not fail to impress. I must admit, I’m still chuckling over his amusing response to being considered for the role of Batman years ago.
While the MCU (which is streaming with a Disney+ subscription) originally had another actor play Thaddeus Ross, the death of William Hurt made way for Harrison Ford to take over. Fans are wondering what upcoming Marvel movies he’ll show up in next, but it turns out he could have played Batman back in the day. A clip from MTV’s Instagram showed him hilariously reacting to that news, and I just keep re-watching. Check it out below:

Wow, isn’t it intriguing to ponder over what could have been if Ford had taken on the role of Batman? It seems he either overlooked the opportunity or momentarily forgot about it, but his reaction – whether it be surprise or disappointment – definitely has meme potential. With his distinctive gravelly voice and chiseled features, I can’t help but imagine him embodying the Caped Crusader in a way that would have left an indelible mark. Alas, the role eventually went to Michael Keaton, with Val Kilmer and George Clooney also donning the cape and cowl.
As a film enthusiast, I must say that the live-action Batman series, currently available on Max, was nothing short of sensational, particularly the first two films directed by Tim Burton. If given the opportunity, Harrison Ford would undoubtedly make an exceptional Batman. However, it’s become increasingly challenging to envision anyone other than Michael Keaton donning the cape and cowl in those iconic roles.
Interestingly enough, the topic of Harrison Ford resembling Batman surfaced during his show “Shrinking”, available for streaming on Apple TV+. In the second season, when Ford’s character Paul is conversing with Alice (played by Lukita Maxwell), she makes a remark saying:
“Did you know you look just like Batman?”
or
“It’s funny, but you remind me of Batman.
Because, yes, you sound like Batman.
Paul mentions that he does this with a sense of seriousness or weight, but it’s quite coincidental that this event and Harrison Ford’s interview with the Star Wars legend line up so perfectly. In fact, Ford’s distinctive speaking style would suit Gotham’s Guardian flawlessly, and it bears a resemblance to the voice Christian Bale adopted while donning the cape and mask for Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.
One of the enduringly famous superheroes is Batman, who has been depicted in various TV shows and movies over the years due to his popularity among fans. There’s much anticipation about who will portray him in the new DC Universe, although it hasn’t been confirmed yet. Interestingly, some upcoming projects like those under the Gods and Monsters banner might feature Batman. Additionally, Matt Reeves’ The Batman series features Robert Pattinson as the lead character, but there are no Batman-focused films scheduled for release in 2025 at this time. As I take another look at that Ford video – my, what a fantastic actor!
