I Didn't Think I'd Ever Enjoy Marvel As Much Again After Endgame. Then Agatha All Along Changed That

As a longtime fan of Marvel, I can wholeheartedly agree that Agatha All Along is truly a masterpiece. Having grown up with the comics and watching the MCU evolve over the years, I must say that this series has managed to capture the essence of what made us all fall in love with the universe in the first place.

So, we all stopped caring a little about the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a time, right?

After “Avengers: Endgame,” there was a sense of uncertainty about what direction the Marvel Cinatic Universe (MCU) would take. While we knew that the concept of a Marvel multiverse would be significant, for a while, the stories presented in new TV shows and movies seemed disconnected from each other, unlike many previous MCU films which had numerous connections. This shift made the MCU feel different, and for a time, I struggled to find the same enjoyment in Marvel as I did before.

As an ardent fan, I’m thrilled that “Agatha All Along” is now set to air as part of the 2024 TV lineup! Although we’ve only seen a handful of episodes so far, it seems to me that this show could be the perfect ticket back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Here are some reasons why I believe it will captivate us all.

WandaVision Was Certainly One Of My Favorite Post-Endgame Shows

Before I even get into the other movies and TV shows post-Endgame, I’ll state my bias right here – I’ve always loved Scarlet Witch and her best moments, and that means I was a massive fan of WandaVision.

Initially, I was among the enthusiastic followers eagerly anticipating the show since its announcement. As soon as it debuted, I tuned in during its premiere week and was instantly captivated by the intriguing theories that emerged with each new episode. The series quickly gained traction in popularity. However, the show didn’t follow any of the paths those theories suggested, but oh boy, what a thrilling period to be a Marvel enthusiast!

It’s likely that I’ll develop a fondness for “Agatha All Along” since I adored “WandaVision” so dearly. However, initially I harbored reservations, particularly following the series and films that came next.

I Did Enjoy Some Post-Endgame Films And Shows, But Most Missed The Mark

I’m not saying I don’t appreciate the post-“Endgame” series and films; on the contrary, I’ve expressed my enjoyment of them extensively in my article about revisiting the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, there’s a lot more to discuss as well.

I’ve been a big admirer of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” since its debut. I couldn’t get enough of “Moon Knight,” and I have to admit, I was among those who thoroughly enjoyed “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” The tribute to fans in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” was skillfully executed as well.

Prior to the release of “Endgame”, it seemed like one action-packed film after another, and then following “Endgame”, it lacked that same level of excitement. Some films stood out, but many were simply forgettable. For instance, “Eternals” was visually stunning, yet I can hardly recall any of the characters’ names. “The Marvels” was decent, but not on par with other movies in its class. As for “Thor: Love and Thunder”, it’s a topic I’d rather avoid discussing.

The quality of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” might have been significantly improved if less had been revealed or speculated prior to its release. As for “Secret Invasion” and “Echo”, they didn’t leave a lasting impression compared to other Marvel productions.

Without a doubt, Deadpool and Wolverine have been a hit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for many viewers. However, on a personal note, I believe that it’s “Agatha All Along” that will draw true Marvel enthusiasts back in.

Agatha All Along Dares To Cross Boundaries The MCU Doesn’t Do As Often

To start off, I’d like to extend some praise to “Agatha All Along” for exploring themes that the Marvel Cinematic Universe seldom delves into. For instance, it boldly confirmed an LGBTQ+ romance in its fourth episode, even going as far as a near-kiss scene. Moreover, it touched on heavy topics like child sacrifice – these aren’t common occurrences within the MCU.

Currently, the diversity of this series is remarkably high, reaching unprecedented levels. As a young Latina woman like myself, it feels heavenly to witness such a wide array of diverse characters in a production such as this. They are collaborating harmoniously and constructing a community, which isn’t frequently portrayed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It serves as a pleasant change and offers an intriguing glimpse into the stories we can anticipate in the future, featuring these diverse characters.

It’s clear that this production features a female-dominated ensemble, reminiscent of “The Marvels”. However, unlike the latter, this film strikes a more serious chord. The characters here possess compelling narratives that resonate deeply from their introduction and leave you eagerly rooting for them. For this reason, I must commend it.

The Story Is Perfect For Spooky Season

It’s unclear who determines the release dates for these shows, but releasing “Agatha All Along” at this particular time of year seemed like a brilliant decision to me. If this show had been released in July, March, or even December, I’m almost certain that it wouldn’t have achieved the success it’s currently enjoying.

The marketing has been perfect, but the story is absolutely stellar for the spooky season. So many people will turn into this show just for the vibes of witchcraft, wizardry and horror—and that, in turn, will bring in viewers, as we have seen after each episode.

Beyond just that, blending eerie aspects with themes of sisterhood (or more broadly, found family), along with humor, creates an exceptional story for a series such as this. Moreover, the inclusion of Teen, who fits seamlessly with the witches due to his inexperience but unyielding determination, is truly brilliant.

The Characters All Have Distinct Personalities That I Can See Incorporated Into Future Marvel Projects

Apart from Agatha All Along featuring a remarkable performance by Kathryn Hahn, another strength lies in the unique and memorable characters of its coven. These characters are so well-defined that they could easily be integrated into other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) projects, just like how it was with WandaVision.

I mean, you can fit any of them into a solo Scarlet Witch movie, but I can see Teen being part of a possible Young Avengers film or see Rio Vadal being in some villain movie or the big baddie of another Marvel film. Everyone I can see incorporated in some way, and that’s what makes them such great additions.

The Series Genuinely Makes Me Hopeful For The Future Of The MCU

As a longtime admirer of Deadpool and Wolverine, I must admit my enthusiasm for this film. Many people believed it would revitalize the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and in terms of box office success, they were correct. With earnings exceeding $1 billion, it holds the record as the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever made.

I firmly believe that “Agatha All Along” could very well be shaping the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as it’s clearly a hit, with an astonishing number of viewers tuning in to watch it.

It shows that, yes, we do care about pre-established characters, but we also care about new stories. We care about new characters, new details and new lore, as long as it’s delivered in an entertaining way that makes sense to the narrative of the MCU. That doesn’t bastardize the content that we all already know of from the comics. That honors the source material while also adding to it as well.

The show Agatha All Along delivers on that front. Despite some people’s negative reviews, the viewership figures clearly demonstrate a demand for such programs. Frankly, this trend gives me optimism about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), as it strives to regain its former glory. Although we can never recapture the pre-Endgame era, the potential for something fresh and exciting lies ahead, and that’s what excites me.

As Halloween fun continues, I’m eagerly anticipating the future of these characters and wondering what lies ahead for them within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
