As a seasoned gamer and parent, I must admit that watching “Man vs. Bee” with my kids was an unforgettable rollercoaster ride of laughter, anxiety, and cherished memories. The show’s physical comedy had my kiddos in stitches, while I was on the edge of my seat, biting away at my fingernails.
Watching something with your kids can be an unpredictable adventure. For instance, I found this out when we sat down to watch Man vs. Bee, the Netflix series starring Rowan Atkinson, which bore strong resemblance to his famous Mr. Bean character but included more dialogue. This show has been on my Netflix list for the past two years, and it was only recently that we as a family were able to finally watch it together.
Allow me to share with you, we all found ourselves having unique perspectives while watching this 10-part comedy series centered around Atkinson’s character attempting (unsuccessfully) to eliminate a nuisance bee in his care. Laced with laughter, tension, life lessons, and moments etched in our minds, this journey has left an indelible mark on us – for good or bad.
My Kids Were Laughing The Entire Time
Similar to many children aged four to eight, my daughters and son are big enthusiasts of slapstick humor. Consequently, the show Man vs. Bee turned out to be an ideal choice for their viewing pleasure. From the moment Trevor Bingley (Atkinson) encountered the bee until the conclusion of this surprisingly brief series (with each episode approximately 10 minutes long), my kids were in fits of laughter, often uncontrollably so, during their enjoyment of this delightful Netflix comedy series.
A man falling into dog poop? Big laughs. What about an important manual containing all the information for the state-of-the-art house’s daily functions being burnt in a cooking accident? Boisterous laughter. Priceless works of art being destroyed? You guessed it, laughter all around.
Although I thoroughly enjoyed seeing my children roar with laughter as they attempted to mimic Trevor’s most hilarious acts, I found myself feeling quite tense during every episode.
But I Spent Most Of Man Vs. Bee Wanting To Call My Therapist
Throughout the movie “Man vs. Bee“, I was remarkably tense, teetering between bursting into laughter and experiencing an emotional breakdown. It wasn’t so intense that I felt compelled to switch it off, but it kept me on edge more than usual for family-friendly comedies. There were several instances where I contemplated phoning my therapist to discuss my unease.
As soon as the ball stopped the library door from shutting, my mind instantly raced with possible worst-case outcomes (which eventually transpired).
To be clear, I didn’t despise “Man vs. Bee” or turn into a mess following every episode. In fact, the show’s wit and the captivating character played by Rowan Atkinson were pure delight!
As Soon As One Episode Would End, My Kids Were Yelling For Me To Press Play
Similar to how quickly you’re drawn into engaging series on Netflix, their platform doesn’t provide much time for deliberation before an episode starts automatically. Take, for instance, the show Man vs. Bee. My kids were eager to watch it, and as soon as the “Play” prompt appeared, they’d shout at me to press it, without any delay. This was a dilemma, especially considering my youngest, who can’t read yet, would still yell excitedly. It was almost like an instinctive response.
My children were thoroughly engrossed in the show, eagerly anticipating how Trevor’s story would progress and, above all, the continuing demolition of the house. Since it was early evening, they had finished their homework, and I found myself running out of reasons to delay fulfilling their requests (at this point, it wasn’t so much pleading as it was insistence).
But I Would Pause For A Moment And Ask ‘Are You Sure?’
Occasionally, amidst all the episodes, I’d pause the show, return to the title page of Man vs. Bee, and inquire if they were still keen on watching another episode. My kids would always respond enthusiastically with a resounding “Yes!” leaving me no room for argument.
Simultaneously, I found myself questioning, “Am I really ready for this?” since the show had me feeling unusually tense and jittery, which is not typical for me during a weeknight. Yet, I didn’t want to disrupt their enjoyable experience, so I continued pressing play every time.
Overall, It Was A Fun (And Sometimes Anxiety-Inducing) Experience For The Whole Family
In summary, spending quality family time watching the show “Man vs. Bee” is an entertaining TV memory I won’t easily forget. I hope my children will cherish it as they grow up. Given our hectic routines, finding moments to relax and watch something enjoyable by all five of us is a rarity that’s growing harder to come by these days, so I’ll gladly celebrate the small wins. And even amidst the chaos, this was definitely a success.
Absolutely, there were tense and nerve-wracking instances throughout the experience, but it was equally exciting and entertaining, leaving me a bit disappointed that we waited so long to partake in it. Similar to many popular comedies for kids, the show was packed with side-splitting, chaotic, and indelible scenes, despite moments where my heart rate would spike.
Despite Man vs. Bee being canceled, I’m looking forward to a multitude of 2025 Netflix productions that will hopefully continue to deliver the same dose of fun, laughter, and mild apprehension right here at home in no time!
