I Finally Watched V/H/S/Beyond, And There's One Short Film I Think Would Make For An Incredible Franchise

As a die-hard horror enthusiast with over two decades of spine-tingling experiences under my belt, I can confidently say that “Stork,” from V/H/S/Beyond, has left an indelible mark on me. It’s not often that a short film manages to grip me so tightly and make me yearn for more, but this one did just that!

After delaying it for over a month and steering clear of discussions with friends and workmates about it, I eventually sat down to watch “V/H/S/Beyond“. While the 2024 film may not be my top pick from this fantastic horror series, there’s one short movie within the anthology that I believe could ignite a sensational spinoff franchise. Now, I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing that idea come to life.

Indeed, it’s true that while the franchise has produced some outstanding horror films in recent times, its track record with spinoffs has been relatively slim and unimpressive, with “SIREN” and “Kids vs. Zombies” being the most recent examples. However, I believe there’s a great deal of potential in “Stork,” a sci-fi short by Jordan Downey that focuses on a tough police unit investigating a series of missing baby cases. Here’s why…

The Stork Had Me On The Edge Of My Seat

The moment I caught a glimpse of the trailer for “V/H/S/Beyond”, my curiosity was piqued by the short film titled “Stork”. This piece tells the story of a team of officers battling zombie-like creatures and an enigmatic bird-alien, reminding me strongly of the atmosphere in the game version of “Resident Evil”. I’m delighted to report that my expectations were not only met but exceeded.

I found myself completely engrossed during the entire brief movie (it’s less than 20 minutes long if you were curious). The director Jordan Downey made an excellent decision to use police bodycams for filming, as it created a sense of fear, unease, and suspense that might have been missed otherwise.

With every step, the expertly-skilled W.A.R.D.E.N. team moved cautiously through the grim abode, their goal being the rescue of lost infants. Yet, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of thrill and fear as I wondered what lay hidden beyond each crumbling corner of this haunting structure.

Why I Think The W.A.R.D.E.N. Team Would Perfect For A Horror Franchise

Among the many exciting horror films coming soon, a V/H/S spinoff focusing on the W.A.R.D.E.N. team seems like a great addition to the list. This potential sequel could delve deeper into the case of the missing infants and the post-alien-house siege repercussions, or it might offer something entirely new; frankly, I’d be content with either scenario.

This top-notch squad is jam-packed with opportunities for adventure, reminiscent of the S.T.A.R.S team from the Resident Evil series. As the stork meets its final demise in the climax of the short film, it’s disclosed that this isn’t their first brush with danger; they’ve faced and conquered similar perils in the past. I yearn for a gripping zombie apocalypse movie featuring these heroes, an adrenaline-fueled vampire thriller, or perhaps a werewolf-filled adventure.

It’s uncertain if the V/H/S series, which boasts a collection of terrifying anthology horror films, will receive more expansions with spinoffs in the future. However, I genuinely believe that “Stork” and its W.A.R.D.E.N. team would make an ideal choice for further exploration in the future.
