I Had To Ask Jesse Garcia About Filming Christopher Nolan’s New Film The Odyssey, And I Was Not Disappointed: ‘It’s A Very Unique Experience’

Over the past few months, filmmaker Christopher Nolan has been gathering an extensive and impressive group of actors for his latest project, The Odyssey. As we eagerly anticipate Tom Holland and Zendaya’s reunion on the big screen (and Matt Damon to eventually conquer that untamed beard), we’ve been picking up snippets about what the upcoming movie might offer. Jesse Garcia, who starred in Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, has joined the cast of this upcoming film release, and gave me a sneak peek into what it’s like working on a Nolan production set. I must say, my expectations were more than met.

While chatting with Garcia about his latest Disney+ movie, “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip“, our conversation veered slightly towards topics related to Nolan. The actor shared that the movie is monumental in numerous aspects and hinted at the grandeur of the upcoming film’s spectacle.

This production is nothing short of extraordinary across the board, it’s vast, and there will be scenes and moments in this film that have yet to be portrayed on screen. In essence, it promises to be an unforgettable visual feast.

It’s clear that Nolan’s movies are typically high-budget productions, yet Garcia has previously starred in significant films such as those within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The supposed scale on the set of “The Odyssey” surpasses even these, sparking my curiosity.

Previously, I’ve visited large film sets, but this one is exceptionally vast. Yet, it manages to be both expansive and cozy at the same time. It offers a truly distinct cinematic adventure.

His constant use of the term “giant” in regard to this movie compared to other high-budget films leaves me questioning its significance. Since the roles of most actors in the latest Nolan production have yet to be disclosed, we don’t have specific details. However, considering the lack of clear information, it’s understandable that we’re only hearing hints about the film’s grandeur. Yet, my curiosity remains aroused.

As a devoted cinephile, I’ve long admired Christopher Nolan’s work, but with “Oppenheimer,” he truly elevated the cinematic experience. This groundbreaking film swept several 2024 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, grossed close to a billion dollars at the box office, boasted an exceptional cast under the direction of “Oppenheimer,” and essentially shared the summer box office spotlight with none other than the iconic ‘Barbenheimer,’ released on the same day as the much-anticipated “Barbie.

If Nolan aims to increase the intensity for his upcoming movie, it would be wise for him to enlist top-tier talent and potentially adapt one of history’s grandest tales – The Odyssey – as his next masterpiece, using state-of-the-art IMAX cameras.

Before you encounter Garcia in “The Odyssey”, you can first see him as Frank Garcia in “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip” with Eva Longoria. Interestingly, he had previously worked with her in the biographical film titled “Flamin’ Hot”.

You can currently watch the film on Disney+. Although it may not be as historic as Homer’s “The Odyssey,” it’s a heartwarming movie that beautifully explores themes of family and Latin culture, which I find simply delightful.

This comedy is simply marvelous and perfect to prepare you for something grand like The Odyssey. Luckily, it has ample viewing time since filming for “The Odyssey” began and is set to release on July 17, 2026. Until then, I’ll savor Garcia in his role that made me chuckle – he’s like a beloved father figure to me.
