I Hope Universal Orlando Brings Back Its Drones Soon, Because Without Them, The CineSational Show Is Missing Its Best Moment

As a theme park enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the magical worlds of entertainment, I must say that Universal Studios Florida’s CineSational: A Symphonic Spectacular is an unparalleled marvel among nighttime shows. However, the recent suspension of drone use due to the unfortunate incident that occurred in Orlando has left me yearning for the return of this breathtaking spectacle.

Spending a day in a theme park is my favorite thing to do on any given day, but any day in any theme park needs the proper sendoff. Most theme parks end their day with fireworks or similar shows of lights and music, like Disney’s classic Main Street Electrical Parade, and right now one of the best nighttime shows around is CineSational: A Symphonic Spectacular at Universal Studios Florida.

I’m personally feeling a tad disappointed at the moment because CineSational seems to lack a bit of its usual grandeur. This is due to a temporary halt in using drones following an unfortunate incident in Orlando close to Christmas. I understand and support this decision, but I truly hope that the issue gets resolved soon, as an essential part of the entire show’s magic relies on the captivating experience provided by these drones.

Universal Studios Florida Has Stopped Using Drones In The CineSational Spectacular

On Christmas Eve, Universal Orlando Resort revealed that they would be halting the deployment of drones in their nightly performance called CineSational: A Symphonic Spectacular. This show had previously combined water effects, fireworks, projection mapping, and drones illuminating the sky as a tribute to film music.

The announcement of the suspension didn’t provide a specific reason, but it came after an incident last weekend in Orlando where a holiday drone display experienced some technical issue, causing a drone to collide with the audience. A seven-year-old child was hurt severely enough to need open heart surgery.

It appears that Universal temporarily paused its drone operations out of caution, following the incident under investigation by the FAA and NTSB. Until the cause of the accident is determined and the investigation concludes, Universal seems to prioritize ensuring the safety of their show above all else, and therefore may choose to resume operations only after they have full assurance that everything is safe.

Drones Are Key To CineSational’s Coolest Moment

As a movie enthusiast, I wholeheartedly support a temporary halt on drone operations at Universal. But let me express my fervent wish that this matter gets resolved swiftly so we can welcome these drones back to service. You see, CineSational is simply phenomenal and currently tops the list of nighttime shows across all theme parks. It’s also an unmissable attraction at Universal Studios Florida, but its most captivating moment just isn’t the same without those drones.

Over the summer, I had the opportunity to see CineSational ahead of its official launch, coinciding with the unveiling of the new Dreamworks land. One specific instant left me utterly amazed. In a sequence set to the music from Back to the Future, various show elements harmoniously came together to project a speeding DeLorean onto a water screen, while drones shaped themselves into a lightning bolt that struck a projection-mapped clock tower and burst into fireworks.

I’m confident that this sequence is fine without drones, but it could be significantly improved with their inclusion. Drones have introduced an exciting new element to nighttime performances that we didn’t previously possess, and they truly enhance the overall experience. In fact, Disney World recently tested a drone show over the summer, which was particularly noteworthy.

It’s important to me that no one gets harmed, which is why I don’t advocate for drones being brought back prematurely. I merely wish they could become ready as quickly as possible, so more people can enjoy a spectacular display just as intended.
