As a film enthusiast with a deep appreciation for unconventional narratives and unique character development, I find myself utterly captivated by the upcoming Netflix production, “The Electric State,” directed by none other than the Russo Brothers. The prospect of Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown sharing the screen in this post-apocalyptic tale, with a sentient animatronic Mr. Peanut as a key character, is simply too intriguing to ignore.
Among the many films scheduled for 2025, there are several that have stirred excitement. However, it’s the relatively small Netflix movie, “The Electric State,” directed by the Russo Brothers and featuring Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown, that has piqued my interest more than any other: this upcoming gem.
This movie offers a peculiar narrative where the evolution of Walt Disney’s audio-animatronics leads to sentient robots who eventually wage war against humans. Animatronic Mr. Peanut serves as one of the central robot characters, and in an unexpected twist, is described by Joe Russo as “the Jimmy Carter” among the robots – a reference that suggests Mr. Peanut will play a significant role in peace negotiations or diplomacy within the robotic society.
As a devoted movie enthusiast, I’d say Mr. Peanut carries an aura similar to Atticus Finch or Jimmy Carter among robots. He’s their epitome of wisdom, progressiveness, and compassion. In recent events, he’s chosen solitude within the Exclusion Zone, a vast region in the American Southwest that serves as a post-war detention center for surviving robots. Spanning hundreds of square miles, it’s a large-scale prison where these mechanical beings have been confined.
It’s not certain whether the link between Mr. Peanut, a talking peanut, and Jimmy Carter, a peanut farmer, is deliberate, but I can’t help but enjoy it. Given the effort the Russo Brothers put into securing the rights for Mr. Peanut as a character, it seems plausible that this connection was carefully planned. After all, they could have chosen any advertising mascot or created an original character, but they chose Mr. Peanut.
One intriguing aspect of the film “The Electric State” lies in its setting: though it’s located in a post-war world where robots and humans clashed violently, the narrative itself does not revolve around the conflict itself. Instead, it unfolds after humanity has emerged victorious from this war.
In this reworded version: Chris Pratt’s character, a former combatant grappling with personal troubles, teams up with Millie Bobby Brown when she suspects her brother was killed in the war. However, they uncover that he’s actually alive and trapped, necessitating a rescue mission. This quest leads them into the area known as the Exclusion Zone mentioned by Joe Russo, where they encounter Mr. Peanut and various robots.
In the near future, the Russo Brothers will once again join forces with Marvel for the upcoming Avengers films, and there’s a good chance Chris Pratt will rejoin them as well. For now, we’ll enjoy an unexpected journey from these filmmakers, which might not be the top movie of next year but it’s certainly gearing up to be one of the most peculiar ones – I can hardly wait!
