I’m thoroughly pumped about the lineup of movies in 2025, but what truly sparks my enthusiasm is the upcoming “Avatar: Fire and Ash”. As part of the Avatar franchise, this third installment is set to grace our screens in December. With its box office triumph seemingly inevitable, given that the first two films rank among the highest-grossing movies ever made, James Cameron’s hint that he believes “Avatar 3” could be the best yet, only adds to my anticipation.
Filming for both Avatar 2 and Avatar 3, as well as a part of Avatar 4, was an enormous task, executed as one grand production. In an interview with Collider, actor Stephen Lang shared the extensive work he undertook for the upcoming Avatar films, though he seems hesitant to confirm his involvement has come to an end entirely.
While I’ve said yes provisionally, absolutely, I must admit that with Jim, things can be unpredictable. However, as you might have guessed, I believe my work is complete. Frankly, I feel like I’ve accomplished enough! But let me stress, when it comes to Jim, there’s always a lifeline available: “We need you here. Get moving!” And guess what? I’ll be there. All in all, I think we can call it a day – or should I say, mission accomplished.
I said yes tentatively, but for sure, but you know, with Jim things can change at any moment. Nevertheless, I believe my part is done. Frankly, I feel like I’ve done enough! But just to clarify, when it comes to Jim, there’s always a way for him to reach me: “We need you here. Drop everything and get over here!” And that’s exactly what I’ll do. In summary, I think we can close the book on this – or should I say, wrap up the project.
Lastly,
I gave you a conditional yes, definitely, but don’t forget that with Jim, things are never certain. However, in my opinion, I’ve completed what needs to be done. Frankly, I feel like I’ve put in enough effort! But let me explain, whenever Jim calls, there’s always an open line: “We need you here. Make your way over!” And as usual, I won’t disappoint him. To sum up, I think we can consider this matter closed – or should I say, the task finished.
It appears that Stephen Lang was frequently recalled to the set during the filming of the Avatar sequels, which isn’t unusual given the extensive use of computer-generated imagery (CGI) in such productions. After all, Avatar is predominantly a CGI film.
Over the past few years, it seems like one has had multiple visits to New Zealand due to filming two full movies and any additional reshoots for both projects. Given that Lang felt done on numerous occasions, it’s hard to say for certain when everything is truly completed.
It’s reasonable to assume that when he mentions “we’re done,” he’s probably talking about the upcoming Avatar sequel alone and not the two other movies planned after Avatar: Fire and Ash hits theaters. As things stand, James Cameron is expected to be involved in those subsequent films as well. Under normal circumstances, it would take a significant box office failure to halt production on these remaining movies.
Indeed, if that occurs, it’ll require restarting the extensive filming process all over again, much like how both Avatar 2 and 3 were filmed simultaneously. As for Avatar 4 and 5, they are scheduled to be released in 2022 and 2031 respectively. With such a long gap, Stephen Lang should definitely start preparing himself for plenty of callback scenes!
