I Was Pleasantly Surprised By Lindsay Lohan’s Our Little Secret As A Whole, But One Moment Was Practically Perfect

As someone who’s been around the block a few times and has seen more than my fair share of rom-coms, I must admit that I wasn’t exactly holding my breath for Lindsay Lohan’s latest Netflix offering, “Our Little Secret.” After the less-than-impressive “Falling For Christmas” and “Irish Wish,” I was ready to write her off as just another washed-up child star trying to make a comeback. But boy, was I wrong!

Frankly speaking, I wasn’t overly optimistic about Lindsay Lohan’s latest Netflix release, “Our Little Secret,” which debuted on their platform earlier this month. I’ve watched her last two Netflix productions, “Falling For Christmas” and “Irish Wish,” the former being too frivolous for my taste, while the latter was just okay. However, rom-coms are a favorite among Netflix viewers, so another one was inevitable. Surprisingly, I found myself quite enjoying “Our Little Secret,” even appreciating an early scene that had a powerful impact on me.

As a fan, let me share the essence: In Our Little Secret, I find myself drawn into the story of Avery (Lindsay Lohan) and Logan (Ian Harding), an ex-couple who unexpectedly find themselves at each other’s family homes during the holiday season. The plot thickens when Avery is struggling with Erica (Kristin Chenoweth), Cameron’s mom, while Logan gets along famously with her. In a bid to win Erica over for Avery without exposing their past relationship, they strike a deal. However, things quickly spiral out of control from the get-go.

The film, in my opinion, is overall adorable (although some critics of “Our Little Secret” might not concur), and it surpassed my expectations compared to the other Lindsay Lohan Netflix productions, signifying a Lohann Renaissance. The movie titled “Our Little Secret” begins by revealing the disintegration of Logan and Avery’s relationship, coinciding with Avery’s plan to depart from her hometown for London, thereby ending their bond. (Brace yourself for some awkwardness.) This event takes place a decade before the storyline unfolds in the present day within the movie streaming platform. Instead of depicting what Avery and Logan have experienced over the last ten years like most films, “Our Little Secret” signifies the elapsed time through a heartfelt retrospective montage showcasing significant events from the past decade.

In addition to finding the opening credits incredibly impactful, they stirred up quite a bit of emotion within me. As someone who shares an era with Lindsay Lohan, the last decade seems both fleeting and endless at the same time. The swift transition from being in your twenties to your thirties is universally quick, but recent events like Covid-19, election cycles, and more have made time feel both drawn out and blurred together for me. It’s as if I’m looking back on a decade that has both flown by and stood still.

The opening credits of a Lohanaissance film took me by surprise, stirring me deeply as they swiftly showcased the past decade, evoking memories of my losses and gains during my thirties. By the point where the contemporary romantic story unfolded with Avery and Logan, I found myself surprisingly connected to them due to their similar age and shared life experiences.

That montage was incredibly impactful, giving credit to the person who thoughtfully designed it, as it beautifully illustrated the passage of time and the growth and progression in the lives of Avery and Logan.
