Back In Action, an entertaining action movie suitable for families, is likely to captivate a multitude of Netflix viewers. Featuring Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz, this film narrates the story of two spies returning to their professions after a 10-year hiatus spent raising their children. The movie delivers a thrilling and comedic experience, as one would anticipate with such talented leads. However, an unexpected joke about baby oil was incorporated into the plot, given the current circumstances surrounding Diddy. Nonetheless, the director has provided an explanation for this element’s inclusion in the film.
The story unfolds in the movie marking the start of Netflix’s 2025 lineup. Early on, characters Emily, portrayed by Diaz, and Matt, played by Foxx, discuss reviving “Monday Movie Nights With Mom” to help Emily bond with their daughter Alice. During this conversation, Diaz’s character suggests the Creed films. In response, Foxx’s character expresses his thoughts as:
“Why don’t we give the Creed movies a try?
That’s a lot of baby oil.
Later in the film, there’s another instance where movie night is brought up. Alice turns down the idea, leading Foxx’s character to propose a private movie night for him and his spouse instead. In agreement, Emily suggests they watch “Creed 3”, to which Matt responds.
To help, I’ll put some baby oil on, like Michael B.
As Seth Gordon, the film’s director, shared with Business Insider, it was the Academy Award-winning actor who came up with those lines. Instead of being part of the original script, they were improvised or “ad-libbed,” as he put it.
That was an ad-lib Jamie did. It was hilarious.
Presently, it’s important to note that some jokes about Diddy may not be as amusing due to the recent legal matters involving him, such as his arrest last autumn. Particularly, a report surfaced stating that over 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricants were found at one of his parties. Thus, it was surprising to learn about the Back in Action joke given the controversy and unsettling nature surrounding Diddy’s parties.
As Gordon stated, there was no discussion about deleting the jokes in question. This is because the Netflix film was already produced prior to any recent news regarding Diddy, and they felt that the joke did not necessitate removal based on this development.
Last year, we filmed this captivating masterpiece. An unexpected turn of events, often referred to as “the Diddy incident,” unfolded post-picture lock. Rest assured, the use of the term “baby oil” in future discussions remains perfectly acceptable.
As a follower, I must admit that the movie “Back in Action” doesn’t explicitly mention Diddy. Yet, the joke was unexpected, and it’s challenging not to associate it with him, given the speculations last fall linking his arrest to Jamie Foxx’s health issue. These rumors even inspired a joke from Foxx about the rapper during his stand-up. However, Gordon has made it crystal clear that the scene in his action movie is unrelated to the ongoing and contentious circumstances involving Combs, as it was created before any of these events unfolded.
If you’re keen on watching Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz together again in “Back in Action”, you can catch it streaming on Netflix.
