As a long-time member of IATSE and someone who has seen firsthand the struggles and triumphs of our union, I am thrilled to see us endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for president of the United States. IATSE’s unanimous decision to back Harris comes after years of tireless advocacy for workers’ rights and labor protections from this administration.
IATSE is endorsing Kamala Harris for president of the United States.
Approximately 170,000 technicians, artisans, and craftspersons in Hollywood and the wider entertainment industry, represented by IATSE, have collectively endorsed Harris following President Biden’s announcement that he will not be seeking re-election and his subsequent support for her. IATSE is the first union in Hollywood’s entertainment industry to make this endorsement, a decision made after they approved their new contract with the studios last week.
IATSE supports Harris as she’s been instrumental in making the Biden-Harris administration the most union-friendly in history.
Among Harris’s attributes, IATSE said Harris, as vice president, cast the tie-breaking vote in the Senate to pass the American Rescue Plan Act, which provided IATSE members and others pandemic relief. Harris was also chair of the White House Task Force on Worker Organizing and Empowerment and asked IATSE for input on executive actions to increase organizing and greater empowerment in the industry.
“IATSE International President Matthew D. Loeb expressed that President Biden’s commitment to American workers, particularly those in IATSE, is unmatched among White House occupants. His consistent advocacy for IATSE workers and the labor movement is noteworthy. We are grateful for his lifetime of public service and exceptional leadership. Although he won’t run for reelection, we stand behind Vice President Kamala Harris this November. Unitedly, we aim to prevent Donald Trump from securing another term, given his history of infringing workers’ rights, weakening unions, and endangering our democracy – actions Trump demonstrated by disregarding an IATSE picket line in 2004.”
