As a seasoned horror movie aficionado who has spent countless sleepless nights huddled under blankets while watching classics like “The Exorcist” and “Friday the 13th,” I must say, Hulu’s annual Huluween event is a dream come true. The idea of ordinary people facing off against iconic horror characters in a high-stakes race is both terrifying and exhilarating.
Instead of putting oneself in the shoes of horror characters, one might say people enjoy fantasizing about being in their place. They warn, “Don’t go in there!” They scold for foolish actions. They delight in contemplating how they would survive a zombie outbreak. However, what transpires when such daydreams are actually faced? Hulu put this idea to the test by asking a New York City running club to outrun well-known horror characters, addressing the classic question: “Could you outrun the villain if you were in a horror movie?” This is all part of the annual Huluween celebrations on Hulu; take a look at the video above to see how it unfolded.
In this thrilling event, competitors bravely navigated their way towards the end point, all the while avoiding characters such as Twisty the Clown from ‘American Horror Story’, the Nun from ‘The Nun II’, and the Ghost from ‘The Grudge’. A surprising revelation unfolded; these terrifying figures were not just actors but professional athletes themselves! Matt James (marathon runner and ‘The Bachelor’ star), Emily Sonnett (professional women’s soccer player), and Masai Russell (Olympic hurdler) donned the villainous costumes to chase the participants. Moreover, comedian Kareem Rahma was present to document the runners’ emotions before and after the race.
Once again this year, Huluween is back with a new collection of spine-tingling content that promises to keep viewers on tenterhooks. If you’re planning a horror marathon or organizing a Halloween watch party, Hulu has curated a month full of heart-stopping entertainment. The lineup includes series such as Grotequerie, American Horror Stories, Reginald the Vampire, and What We Do in the Shadows, along with movies like Immaculate, The Fly, It Follows, Smile, The First Omen, Barbarian, The Sixth Sense, and more. Additionally, there are Halloween TV specials from shows like Family Guy and Solar Opposites.
There’s Also a Disney+ Halloween
Given that Hulu is under Disney’s ownership, it’s not surprising to find Disney+ joining in the Halloween spirit as well. They’ve set up a dedicated Halloween hub page (see the link below) filled with a multitude of titles, largely family-friendly. They’ve divided their content into sections such as Halloween-themed TV episodes, shorts and specials, a section for the annual spooky episodes of The Simpsons‘ Treehouse of Horror, one for their original movies and series like the new Goosebumps series and the recent Haunted Mansion film. Additionally, they offer videos on Halloween crafts and costume ideas through their Disney Family Sundays series.
