‘I’d Love It’: One Guardians Of The Galaxy Star Is Down To Return To The MCU For The Avengers

As you gaze at the upcoming Marvel films on the horizon, it seems we’re approximately a year away from the unveiling of the next Avengers film. Naturally, speculation abounds about which characters will make up the superhero team when the second generation unites during the following summer. Currently, there are numerous possibilities, many of them stemming from the last Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

This week, I’m eagerly anticipating the release of A24’s unique film titled “Death of a Unicorn”, starring none other than Paul Rudd, who you might recognize as Ant-Man, and Will Poulter, a promising talent from “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”. Interestingly, Poulter joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in 2021 to portray Adam Warlock, although his role was quite limited. Recently, he shared his thoughts on potentially returning to the MCU after working alongside Rudd, hinting:

Absolutely! If given the opportunity to reprise my role, I’d jump at it. The experience of playing that character was truly enjoyable. So, should they reach out again, count me in!

To refresh your memory, Warlock was a Sovereign crafted by Ayesha as a deadly weapon designed to eliminate the Guardians. Yet, Warlock didn’t fare well in his attempts to wipe out the unconventional superhero squad. Eventually, in the finale of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Warlock opted to team up with the new Guardians, now led by Rocket the Raccoon.

Since the Guardians of the Galaxy played significant roles in both “Infinity War” and “Endgame,” there’s a real possibility that Warlock might show up as well. As Poulter stated to Comicbook, if offered, he would be thrilled to don the gold body paint again for another Warlock appearance.

Is there a plan for Adam Warlock’s future in the Marvel universe without James Gunn as a filmmaker anymore? Notably, the creator of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy is now in control of DC Studios and is set to release the new Superman film this summer.

Marvel retains the rights to the Guardians, even without James Gunn, but I’m hesitant that the team will maintain its unique charm without his influence. Furthermore, there are numerous other characters within the MCU that have been introduced recently and could benefit from more development. When Gunn mentioned incorporating Warlock in Vol. 3, he expressed a feeling of obligation as he had promised the character’s appearance in the post-credits of Vol. 2. However, some aspects of his script evolved over time, possibly reducing Warlock’s significance in the third installment.

Poulter is an exceptional actor making waves in Hollywood this year, with two highly anticipated films – “Death of a Unicorn” and “Warfare” – hitting the screens. Following his stellar performance in one of the top “Black Mirror” episodes, “Bandersnatch”, he will reappear in a sequel episode slated for Season 7 release on April 10. Moreover, with the possibility of more appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Avengers” movies, fans can only hope to see Warlock in future MCU installments.
