As a die-hard fan of reality TV and sports, I can’t help but be captivated by the idea of Ilona Maher gracing the stage as The Bachelorette. Her journey on Dancing with the Stars has been nothing short of inspiring, and her wit and humor are just icing on the cake.
Given that Season 33 of “Dancing with the Stars” includes a Bachelor and a Bachelorette, speculation abounds about who might succeed them in the show. In a playful manner, Ilona Maher has emerged as a potential candidate, frequently expressing her desire to find her match on social media. Alongside her partner Alan Bersten, she has humorously set out criteria for her ideal suitors, and here’s hoping ABC is paying attention!
Following the airing of DWTS’ 500th episode on its 2024 TV schedule, and with Maher and Bersten surviving the instant dance challenge, they engaged in a series of post-show interviews. During their conversation with ET, they were questioned about past remarks concerning The Bachelorette. Rather than dismissing the question, they humorously addressed it and elaborated on the traits that would make an ideal man according to their dreams.

It’s clear they were joking around, but their comments were insightful nonetheless. It can’t be argued that Ilona Maher would excel as the main character in The Bachelorette (or any reality TV show, truth be told). Given that she’s been teamed up with last season’s lead, Jen Tran, and the latest Bachelor, Joey Graziadei for quite some time now, it wouldn’t be surprising if she picked up a few tips from them.
Given the particular set of criteria Alan has outlined, it seems these two options meet the requirements effectively. Therefore, Bachelorette producers, please take note. We are searching for 30 potential suitors, and here is a suggested list of qualifications provided by Ilona’s partner, which includes:
To make it clear for someone to reach that point, they need to excel in team or physical contact activities.
Considering Ilona Maher is a professional rugby player who has an Olympic medal for the sport, I think this is a good requirement. However, she made a fair point after that, saying that they could be “just, like strong” too.
Additionally, Bersten specified a minimum height, inquiring whether 6 feet 2 inches or 6 feet 5 inches was preferable for Maher. However, she pointed out that someone who stands at 5 feet 10 inches or taller would be suitable, as this is her own height.
The final two requirements are super important too. As you know if you follow the athlete on TikTok, she loves to read, and her partner said that her man also needs to “be able to read books.” Meanwhile, Maher laid down one more law herself, making it clear that her potential love interest must be into food. She will have no one who isn’t appreciative of a good meal. And overall, I agree with all of that.
So, let’s get the casting call out, shall we? This sounds like a lock to me!
It’s common knowledge that Ilona Maher is a woman who empowers others, as demonstrated by her participation in The Olympics and DWTS. She’s also known for her great sense of humor, which shines through in her TikTok videos, such as the one where she and Bersten attempted Danny Amendola’s viral challenge. Furthermore, she appears to be both down-to-earth and compassionate. Given these qualities, it seems only fitting that she could find true love on The Bachelorette.
As Ilona and Alan were bantering about it, I’d definitely consider tuning in for a season of The Bachelorette, if it were an Olympian at the helm. Moreover, I’m quite keen to observe the gentlemen they select, who undoubtedly would fulfill all the prerequisites mentioned earlier.
Despite it potentially being an unrealistic scenario, it’s enjoyable to fantasize and make light-hearted comments. Fortunately, Ilona continues to entertain us through her performances, as she’s still vying for the title on “Dancing with the Stars.” Tune in next week to witness her dance with Alan by catching “DWTS” on ABC or with a Disney+ subscription at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
