Iggy Azalea drags Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin for singing at TOKEN2049 Singapore

As a seasoned researcher with years of experience delving into the dynamic world of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology, I find myself intrigued by this unfolding saga between Iggy Azalea and Vitalik Buterin. The crypto space is known for its eccentricities, but this latest twist has certainly added a new layer of entertainment to it.

It appears that rapper Iggy Azalea expressed a critical view of Vitalik Buterin and the participants at TOKEN2049 in Singapore, describing the various panel discussions and Ethereum co-founder’s performance as “unimpressive” or “not worthy.

On a Saturday update via social media, the artist known as “Fancy” responded to critics by stating: “I don’t whine about observing you all stumbling over words at conferences while performing songs about cryptocurrency or other unimpressive topics. I’d feel mortified enough to avoid posting such content.

See below.

As a crypto analyst, finding myself amidst an extravagant gathering of high-net-worth individuals, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of bewilderment when the focus shifted from engaging discussions to a meme party featuring an eccentric depiction. It was an odd contrast to the impressive caliber of people in the room, and their collective wealth certainly outweighed any hater vibes that seemed to be floating around.

Although Azalea didn’t mention Buterin’s name, it was clear who she was referring to.

At TOKEN2049, Vitalik Buterin, co-creator of Ethereum (ETH), showcased his musical talents by performing a song centered around cryptocurrency. Justin Sun, the founder of Tron, shared a video of the performance on Twitter, praising Buterin for his bravery in taking the stage to sing about digital currencies.

I’m bullish here because we know this requires a lot of courage. @VitalikButerin 😂

Azalea wins support

Some individuals within the cryptocurrency community voiced criticism towards Azalea following the appearance of videos and pictures from a crypto-related event she attended in Las Vegas on social media platforms.

Azalea, whose real name is Amethyst Amelia Kelly, quickly retorted with several tweets.

We enjoyed ourselves.

Thirty-four-year-old Azalea organized an event to spotlight her recent ventures – the meme coin MOTHER and her recently opened casino, Motherland.

The rapper remarked that those critics would shed tears of regret if they discovered who had been present at the event she hosted.

Fellow members of the cryptocurrency community, including those who did not participate, voiced their support for the Australian celebrity amidst the controversy.

Skipped the party, invested in additional NGL (Not Giveable Liquids), many crypto enthusiasts seem to be more into scamming than building, personally, I prefer backing someone who’s constructing or experimenting, even if it doesn’t succeed.

Azalea prefers Solana over Ethereum

Not only did Azalea continue with her remarks, but she also criticized the Ethereum network more emphatically. She shared a story that took place during a flight when a traditional finance individual sitting beside her inquired about Ethereum.

Azalea recommended purchasing Solana (SOL) to him, pointing out the purchase price and suggesting it as a more suitable option for retail growth.

In another tweet, the rapper further emphasized her viewpoint and commended the Solana network for its efficient management of traffic congestion. Additionally, she shared an image from a Google search suggesting that Solana typically outperforms other networks when it comes to managing congestion.

Just double checked I’m not and idiot…
Yup. I’m not!

One factor contributing to her backing of Solana is that her meme token, Mother Iggy, operates on the Solana blockchain. Launched on May 29, 2024, Mother Iggy rapidly garnered attention and popularity.

In just a few short days, the meme coin’s price soared to an unprecedented peak of $0.2406 on June 6th, representing a staggering increase of around 1400% from its record low of $0.004545, which was set on May 31st.

However, the meme coin has lost over 70% of its value from its ATH. But amidst all the craze around Iggy’s party and her tweets, MOTHER has surged over 22% in the last 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap data.

‘Never touch a celebrity memecoin’

The feud between Azalea and Buterin started following the criticism from Andrew Saunders, the head of marketing and growth at the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) blockchain Skale, about celebrities participating in cryptocurrency.

Originating from Hollywood, Saunders stated to Cointelegraph during TOKEN20249 that he’d steer clear of celebrity-backed meme tokens. He cautioned the token holders, “You might experience a sudden drop in value.

In June, Buterin also took a swipe at celebrity meme coins.

He expressed his dissatisfaction with the current trend of celebrity experimentation during this cycle, stating on X.com: “What can we do to steer things towards a more positive outcome?

I’m not particularly pleased with “this season’s celebrity trends” so far.
