IIT Bombay, BFI Forge Alliance to Transform Indian Healthcare

IIT Bombay and Blockchain for Impact (BFI) have joined forces to spearhead innovative projects and significantly reform India’s public health sector, addressing urgent healthcare concerns of the country.

The healthcare system in India, with its massive population and complex public health concerns, is under growing pressure. This collaboration aims to tackle these challenges directly and foster medical advancements and studies that will improve the health of countless Indians.

The collaboration between BFI and IIT Bombay brings advantages to each organization’s goals. BFI strives to enhance the healthcare sector by broadening access to medical care and essentials for all, while IIT Bombay is recognized for its innovative research and technology in product creation.

Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, the director of IIT Bombay, emphasized the importance of the partnership by stating, “IIT Bombay has a long history of being innovative. This collaboration showcases our dedication to using advanced research to tackle significant social issues.”

“He remarked, “Partnering with Blockchain for Impact will help us expedite the creation and implementation of groundbreaking healthcare solutions capable of significantly enhancing public health in India and globally.”

BFI intends to allocate $300k annually for three years, amounting to a total investment of $900k, in collaboration with IIT Bombay on healthcare technology projects. This investment is an extension of the larger $15m BFI-Biome initiative, which brings together leading researchers, technologists, and innovators to foster advancements in biomedical research and address health-related issues.

The BFI-Biome initiative finances translational research projects that can significantly enhance healthcare by collaborating with respected entities such as FNDR, TCG CREST, BITS Pilani, Venture Center, AIC-CCMB, SIIC IIT Kanpur, IISc, and more.

“Collaborating with IIT Bombay allows us at BFI to develop healthcare innovations that have the potential to significantly improve public health for a large population,” said Sandeep Nailwal, the founder of BFI.

“He stated, ‘By working together, we can fund pioneering studies and provide innovative answers to challenges faced by communities in India and the Global South.’ “
