I’m Extremely Excited For Wrestling In 2025, Here Are The 5 Things I’m Most Looking Forward To

As a lifelong wrestling fan and someone who has been following the sport for over three decades, I can confidently say that the year 2025 is shaping up to be the most exciting year in wrestling history! With so many iconic events like Wrestle Kingdom 19, SummerSlam, All In: Texas, and the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 41, it’s going to be a rollercoaster ride of epic proportions.

For me, personally, these events will bring back a flood of memories from my childhood, when I would stay up late to watch wrestling on TV or travel hours to attend live shows. And now, as an adult, I get to experience the magic all over again with my own children. It’s like a dream come true!

Just think about it – we have the chance to witness legends like John Cena in his final matches, and up-and-coming stars making their mark on the wrestling world. Plus, the prospect of seeing NJPW, AEW, and WWE all under one roof at Wrestle Kingdom 19 is simply mind-boggling.

But let’s not forget about the humor in it all. After all, wrestling has always been a mix of drama and comedy. I can just imagine the hilarious tweets that will come from fans during the two-night SummerSlam at MetLife Stadium. I mean, who wouldn’t crack up at Cena’s antics as he tries to outdo himself in his final WWE performances?

2025 is going to be an unforgettable year for wrestling fans everywhere. So, let the countdown begin! Can’t wait to see you all there!

As someone who has been following professional wrestling for over two decades now, let me tell you that 2024 was a truly exceptional year for this sport. I have seen my fair share of great matches and memorable moments, but the events of last year really took things to another level. From WWE’s blockbuster shows to the rising stars in AEW and beyond, there was no shortage of top-notch wrestling action to enjoy.

But as the clock ticks down on 2024, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation for what lies ahead in 2025. With so many talented wrestlers making their mark and new storylines emerging, it promises to be a year full of excitement and unforgettable moments. So, buckle up and get ready for a wild ride! 2025 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for professional wrestling, and I can’t wait to see what unfolds!

I’m thrilled about the upcoming developments in professional wrestling, such as WWE’s Raw shifting to Netflix, AEW’s TV shows appearing on Max, and the farewell tours of two influential wrestlers from this century. Plus, there are more major events than I can list that have me buzzing with anticipation! Here are the five things I can’t wait for in 2025…

Monday Night Raw’s Netflix Debut Feels Like The Start Of A New Era

For the first time since its inception over 30 years ago, “Monday Night Raw” will no longer air on cable TV starting January 6, 2025. Instead, viewers will need an active Netflix subscription to watch WWE’s flagship show, marking a significant change in how we consume wrestling entertainment. I couldn’t be more thrilled about this development!

I understand that in wrestling, the golden rule is “subject to change,” meaning that promotions for upcoming events don’t guarantee everything shown will occur. However, the WWE ads building up their Netflix debut have certainly caught my attention. With a lineup featuring Roman Reigns vs. Solo Sikoa, Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley’s match, and CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins in the main event, it seems less like a regular TV show and more like a premium live WWE event. This feels like the start of a fresh year and a new era, and I’m eagerly anticipating where this journey leads us.

AEW’s Weekly Shows Are Coming To Max (With PPVs To Follow)

Beginning January 1, 2025, AEW’s flagship shows, “Dynamite” and “Collision,” will continue to air on TBS and TNT respectively. However, a significant shift in viewing the promotion is expected from 2025. Commencing with the episode of “Dynamite” on January 1, 2025, those who subscribe to Max will have the opportunity to watch this popular two-hour wrestling program. The following Saturday, January 4, 2025, “Collision” will also be available for viewing with a Max subscription.

In a press release dated December 2024, Warner Bros. Discovery and AEW unveiled what they called “a new epoch for wrestling on TNT, TBS, and Max.” After reading through the details, I must admit that my enthusiasm for AEW has been rekindled to a level not felt in quite some time. Furthermore, it was mentioned that upcoming AEW pay-per-view events would be streamable later in 2025; however, pricing details have yet to be disclosed at this stage.

I’m eagerly counting down the days until I dive back into the rich collection of episodes from shows like Dynamite, Collision, Rampage, and every pay-per-view event between 2019 and 2024 on Max. It’s a treasure trove I can’t wait to revisit!

We’re Not Even On The Road To WrestleMania 41 Yet, But There’s So Much Momentum Heading Into Las Vegas

The journey towards WrestleMania doesn’t commence officially until the Royal Rumble, but the company seems to have an incredible amount of energy and anticipation as we enter the new year. With WrestleMania 41 happening in approximately three months, WWE is operating at a high level that hasn’t been seen for years, or perhaps even decades. I’m excited to see how they will capitalize on this momentum and goodwill they have earned from their fans over the last couple of years; I believe the April 2025 event could be the biggest WrestleMania in history.

As a lifelong fan of professional wrestling, I can confidently say that this year’s WrestleMania is shaping up to be one for the history books. With John Cena potentially wrestling his final match, the return of The Rock, and CM Punk possibly making his main-event debut (a goal he’s been pursuing for years), it feels like we’re in store for a truly epic event. And let me tell you, with one of the strongest WWE rosters I’ve seen in recent memory, I can hardly contain my excitement.

To put it into perspective, the past two WrestleManias have been hailed as two of the best shows in the event’s long history, and I don’t see any reason why this year’s 41st “Granddaddy of Them All” will be any different. When WWE takes over Sin City in the spring, I have no doubt that we’ll be witnessing a show that will go down as one of the all-time greats.

I remember watching WrestleMania as a kid and feeling like nothing could top those moments of excitement and wonder. But now, with so many talented wrestlers and storylines to follow, I feel like I’m reliving those childhood memories all over again. It’s an incredible feeling, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this year’s event. Bring on WrestleMania 37!

John Cena And Hiroshi Tanahashi Are Both Kicking Off Their Farewell Tours

In simple terms, two iconic wrestlers from this century, John Cena and Hiroshi Tanahashi, are preparing to embark on farewell tours in 2025, signifying the end of their remarkable careers. I’m eagerly anticipating who Cena will fight during his departure and how Tanahashi will manage his last year of performances before retiring at the January 4, 2026 Tokyo Dome event. However, it’s a mix of excitement and sadness as we approach this chapter closure.

John Cena’s Farewell Tour

Following subtle indications about his future during the beginning of summer, John Cena declared at Money in the Bank 2024 that he’s nearing the end of an unprecedented wrestling career. Although the specific match for his farewell has yet to be disclosed, the actor-turned-wrestler is concentrating on wrestling engagements in 2025, so we can expect plenty of him over the next year. I’m eagerly anticipating some dream matches, references to his past, and other thrilling moments before Cena eventually retires.

Hiroshi Tanahashi’s Final Year

Hiroshi Tanahashi, often regarded as the New Japan Pro Wrestling counterpart of John Cena, is initiating a goodbye tour as he prepares to retire from wrestling in early 2026, marking the end of his impressive 26-year career. In an October 2024 press conference (through NJPW’s X account), Tanahashi officially announced January 4, 2026 as his retirement date. This gives fans approximately a year to witness this homegrown talent face both familiar and new opponents, including an eagerly awaited match against EVIL at Wrestle Kingdom 19 in January 2025.

With Wrestle Kingdom 19, SummerSlam, And All In: Texas, There Are Some BIG Shows That Have My Attention

Among many things I’m eagerly looking forward to as we step into the new year is the abundance of grand events that are lined up. Notably, the Royal Rumble in February and WrestleMania 41 in April are highly anticipated. Moreover, various promotions have planned at least one significant stadium event before the end of the year.

The upcoming event, Wrestle Kingdom 19, which is akin to WWE’s WrestleMania for New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), will take place on January 4th at the Tokyo Dome. This year’s lineup promises an exceptional experience. If you’re new to NJPW or Japanese wrestling in general, this is definitely worth a look. Zack Sabre Jr. will defend his IWGP Heavyweight Championship against Shota Umino, and Hiroshi Tanahashi will have his near-final match at the Tokyo Dome against EVIL. Additionally, there are eight other exciting bouts scheduled. And if that’s not enough, a Wrestle Dynasty supershow featuring NJPW, AEW, CMLL, Ring of Honor, and Stardom is planned for the following day with an additional 11 matches.

For the past two All In events, they’ve taken place in London. However, AEW is planning to host its major summer event in the United States for the first time since the initial event in 2018. As of now, no details have been revealed, but the upcoming All In: Texas at Globe Life Field, Arlington, Texas on July 12, 2025, is expected to be a massive spectacle.

Having grown up as a devoted fan of professional wrestling, I can hardly contain my excitement for the unique two-night SummerSlam event happening at MetLife Stadium on August 2nd and 3rd. As someone who has watched WWE for decades, I’ve witnessed countless memorable moments that have left an indelible mark on me. With John Cena being a part of this year’s card, I can only imagine the thrilling matches and storylines that WWE will concoct to make this event truly unforgettable. I eagerly await the spectacle that is SummerSlam and can hardly wait to see history in the making!

All in all, I think 2025 is going to be one hell of a year to be a wrestling fan.
