I’m Glad Marvel Is Apparently Talking To Colman Domingo About A Role, But I’ve Actually Been Thinking He’d Be Perfect For A Certain DC Character

As a long-time gamer and movie enthusiast who’s been around the block a few times, let me tell you that Colman Domingo has been nothing short of phenomenal in his recent roles. His versatility and talent are undeniable, and it’s only a matter of time before he lands a major superhero gig – preferably in DC!

As a devoted gamer, I’ve got to say, Colman Domingo has truly been making waves in Hollywood recently. This seasoned actor has been around for quite some time now, but his recent performances in movies and TV shows have left me absolutely awestruck! He’s had an impressive career so far, but it’s exciting to see he hasn’t yet graced the screen as a major live-action superhero.

What Did Colman Domingo Say About Possibly Working With Marvel?

The trained stage actor and Philadelphia native has been promoting his latest production – Netflix’s The Madness, which has emerged as a true juggernaut amid the 2024 TV schedule. Just recently, he caught up with ScreenGeek, at which point the A-lister was asked if he had interest in working with Marvel Studios. The Rustin star then confirmed that he had spoken indeed spoken with the Disney-owned company and explained what that chat entailed:

In simpler terms, I’ve had a conversation with Marvel, indeed I have. However, the discussion wasn’t about any specific project. They essentially asked me, “What would you like to work on?” To which I responded, “I’m not sure. What do you have for me?” So, we’re in talks, naturally. Who wouldn’t want to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Yet, I don’t want it to be just any role. It should be something that resonates with me and allows me to contribute my unique touch to. So, we’ll see what materializes. As of now, I’m unsure about the details, but I’m willing to wait and see.

This year, there were whispers that Colman Domingo could take over the role of Kang the Conqueror following Jonathan Majors’ dismissal from the villain position due to legal complications. However, Domingo himself expressed uncertainty about whether he was actually being considered as Majors’ successor or not. Still, he didn’t outright reject the possibility of becoming a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in some capacity.

In summary, it’s been verified that the actor from Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is going to appear in an upcoming Marvel show. His role will be providing vocals for the animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, where he will depict a revamped version of the villainous Norman Osborn. It would be exciting to see the Candyman star make his entry into the MCU through a live-action production. Additionally, there are numerous roles that he could potentially play in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, I can’t help but think about one possible DC hero casting.

Which DC Character Do I Think Would Be Perfect For Colman Domingo?

At DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran are spearheading a fresh start, heralding the debut of the interconnected universe known as the DCU. The first chapter is named “Gods and Monsters,” and it seems that their strategy for this series is largely set. Additionally, I’m eagerly anticipating future additions to the roster, hoping that characters from the Milestone Media imprint will be featured in live-action adaptations. In my opinion, Colman Domingo would be an excellent choice to portray Icon.

In 1993, the characters Icon, created by Dwayne McDuffie and M. D. Bright, first appeared in comics. Originally an alien from Termia, Icon was stranded on Earth in the 1880s. After being adopted by a slave, he lived his life and eventually took on the name Augustus Freeman IV in the 20th century.

Freeman boasts increased toughness, the capacity to generate energy, and the talent for flight. This hero is also an accomplished combatant. Furthermore, he teamed up in battles with his teenage companion, Raquel Ervin, better known as Rocket. These characters have graced both comic books and made appearances on the critically-acclaimed animated series “Young Justice,” which can be streamed in its entirety (four seasons) with a Max subscription.

Characterized by both strength and dignity, the icon is an individual exuding poise. Standing tall and commanding, Colman Domingo mirrors this character physically, but also captures his intellectual depth flawlessly. Although physicality plays a crucial role in the part, Domingo is equally capable of delivering it convincingly. His performance in the swamp scene on The Madness provides a testament to his dedication to intricate action sequences.

It might appear as if this idea is too far-fetched at the moment, but I firmly think the actor from “Drive-Away Dolls” could convincingly portray Augustus Freeman within the DC Universe. For now, we can only speculate if James Gunn and Peter Safran have any plans for Milestone characters to fit into their narrative, but let’s keep our fingers crossed. Meanwhile, I’m also eagerly anticipating news about potential collaborations between that Oscar-nominated actor and Marvel Studios.

1) Watch Colman Domingo in “The Madness” on Netflix right away! And don’t forget to see him deliver an outstanding performance in the movie “Sing Sing,” which will be back in theaters starting January 17th.
