I’m Gonna Get This

In the expansive Marvel universe, accessible via a Disney+ subscription, an array of TV shows and movies unfold. Fans who have diligently followed the Marvel films chronologically will recognize some characters as popular favorites, with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher undoubtedly among them. Interestingly, these two well-loved characters actually assisted each other in securing their roles during their early days.

After his impressive portrayal in the final episode of “Daredevil: Born Again,” it’s been announced that Jon Bernthal will star in a Punisher special. Although some fans anticipate seeing him in future Marvel films, it seems that Bernthal and Holland have supported each other in securing their iconic roles. In an IMDb TikTok post, the former “Walking Dead” actor disclosed that Holland had always known he would get the part of Peter Parker, stating:

As a dedicated admirer, let me share my perspective: I’m currently collaborating with an extraordinary individual. This person is the epitome of greatness. His unyielding determination, even at a young age, was truly inspiring. When I first encountered him, he expressed his ambition with conviction, saying ‘I’m going to achieve this.’ At that moment, I had my doubts, thinking, ‘There are probably many others who desire it, friend.’ However, his resilience and determination quickly proved me wrong.

In 2015, Bernthal and Holland collaborated on the film “Pilgrimage.” This movie was made before either of them became part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It seems that Holland had high hopes for the role, and who could blame him?

During an interview for his part in the forthcoming film “The Accountant 2“, Bernthal discussed his experience. He revealed that he and Holland had assisted one another in securing their respective roles, stating: “While promoting our upcoming movie, Bernthal explained how Holland and he had mutually supported each other to get those parts.

Originally, we filmed a movie in a minuscule Irish town situated on the western coast of Ireland. We both auditioned for roles – he as The Punisher and I as Spider-Man – and we were both selected to be part of the cast.

Isn’t it astonishing? Acting in self-tapes for auditions can always be a challenge, often requiring an acquaintance to read a scene with the actor. During their collaboration on Pilgrimage, these actors reciprocated assistance, and both secured their roles as a result. For Tom Holland, this opportunity turned out to be a pivotal moment in his life and career, propelling him towards superstardom.

Indeed, the journeys of these MCU actors have been distinct from one another. Jon Bernthal first appeared as Frank Castle, available on Season 2 of Daredevil, exclusively for Netflix subscribers. Later, he received his own series. On the other hand, Tom Holland made his entrance as Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War, followed by a trilogy of films and appearances in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Unfortunately, there’s no hint yet that their characters might interact, despite both residing in New York City.

In the current stream on Disney+, you can catch Bernthal’s role in “Daredevil: Born Again,” which also features his past work within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The sequel to “The Accountant” is set for a theater release on April 25th, as part of the 2025 motion picture lineup.
