‘I’m not supposed to show sympathy to Ibrahim Ali Khan, Khushi Kapoor’ claims Karan Johar after Nadaaniyan debacle; find out why

The film Nadaaniyan was Saif Ali Khan’s son Ibrahim Ali Khan’s first movie, with Khushi Kapoor as the main actress. It faced criticism and online bullying about its lead pairing. Now, producer Karan Johar has spoken out about the situation. He stated that some people felt he should not show support for Ibrahim and Khushi simply because they are children of famous actors.

In a chat with Galatta Plus, Karan Johar discussed his production titled Nadaaniyan, which premiered on Netflix in March 2025. He brought up the fact that criticizing the movie had turned into a popular trend. He explained that the more videos criticizing it were being posted, the more interaction and attention they were receiving. The filmmaker expressed that people enjoy attacking star kids and hoped they would move past this.

Regarding the feelings of Ibrahim Ali Khan, Khushi Kapoor, Karan stated that he felt particularly sorry for them. However, he mentioned that it seems inappropriate to express sympathy towards them since they are often perceived as being privileged, and it’s assumed that they should not have emotions.

Karan mentioned that some people believed the Nadaaniyan actors didn’t have grounds to be upset since they originated from a position of ‘privilege.’ However, he pointed out that these actors were actually vulnerable individuals, newcomers in the industry with tender hearts.

In his own words, the director of “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani” expressed that the negative reactions were likely due to him being the one who brought the movie into existence. He put it simply: “I seem to draw this type of criticism.
