The 2025 television lineup is becoming increasingly intense due to the arrival of Mayfair Witches Season 2, and we’re excitedly anticipating all the plot twists from AMC’s Anne Rice universe. Interestingly, Alexandra Daddario’s character Rowan is experiencing a significant amount of hostility from fellow witch Moira Mayfair, portrayed by newcomer Alyssa Jirrels this season. However, contrary to their on-screen dynamics, as revealed in an interview with TopMob, Daddario was incredibly supportive of Jirrels during her debut on the television series.
Mayfair Witches’ Alyssa Jirrels Gushes Over Working With Alexandra Daddario
On the hit show “Mayfair Witches,” Jirrels’ character Moira and Daddario’s character Rowan have found themselves at odds throughout the season. Given Moira’s recent losses of her sister Tessa and mother since Rowan joined the Mayfair coven, it’s no surprise that their characters have had a rocky relationship on screen. In reality, though, the actresses portraying these characters, Jirrels and Daddario, get along quite well off-set.
During my conversation with Jirrels regarding collaborating with Daddario for Season 2, she disclosed the heartwarming encouragement the main character extended to her.
We’ve had a fantastic time [collaborating with Alexandra Daddario]. I truly appreciated our time together, and I must say, she was more than just a great co-star and exceptional actress; she was an authentic person. We had numerous conversations about the acting industry, her feelings when she was around my age, and her experiences throughout the years. I found her incredibly approachable, with no airs or pretenses.
Jirrels boasts a decade-long credit history, dating back to her teen years, but her true Hollywood journey is just beginning. Before landing a significant role on “Mayfair Witches”, her most recognized TV appearance was in the cast of “Fatal Attraction” alongside Joshua Jackson and Lizzy Caplan. Yet, it seems she’s discovered something enchanting with Daddario, expressing:
Not only did she introduce me to some great music from the band Frightened Rabbit, but she also graciously allowed my friend and me to stay at her New York home. To top it off, she even took me to Bordeaux. I must say, she’s done some truly remarkable things, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have her as a friend.
Remarkably, these two actresses differ by 14 years in age, with Daddario boasting a wealth of experience due to her long acting career that started when she was just a teenager. It appears they formed a strong connection on set, and the actress from The White Lotus (who was pregnant during production and welcomed her baby on Halloween 2024) was an exceptionally kind and considerate colleague.
Why The Mayfair Witches Actress Actually Loves That There’s ‘A Lot Of Opinions’ About The Series
It might seem challenging to be the lead in a series like “Mayfair Witches,” given the wide range of opinions it generates due to deviations from Anne Rice’s books. Yet, during our conversation, Jirrels shared an admirable approach she uses to handle being part of such a divisive show – embracing the fervor of its fans. Indeed, she has encountered various online opinions regarding “Mayfair Witches,” but as she explained, she appreciates the enthusiasm that fans bring to the series. In her own words:
The fact that there will always be varying opinions doesn’t surprise me. When we’re filming, it sometimes feels like it’s all for fun, and I often forget that this footage will end up on TV. That thought is mind-boggling! It’s incredible to me that people not only have opinions about our work, but that they care enough to form them. Regardless of whether those opinions are positive or negative, the fact that our production is being watched and discussed at all is truly amazing to me.
Jirrels mentioned that while she isn’t particularly fond of the supernatural genre herself, she admires the passion the fanbase shows. Since securing the role, she has also started exploring the world created by Anne Rice. She put it this way: “Even though I don’t fully embrace the supernatural myself, I can’t help but appreciate how intensely the fandom embraces it.
I briefly dabbled in reading “Lasher” during my flight to New Orleans, and I found it quite engaging. Frankly, at that point, I hadn’t yet discussed the intricacies of Mona and Moira with Esta, as they were characters initially modeled upon. There are noticeable differences between them, which made me yearn to learn more. I recall thinking, “Wow, this 13-year-old is undertaking some extraordinary actions,” due to certain characteristic Anne Rice elements found within the book.
It’s well-known among fans that the television series, “Mayfair Witches,” has departed significantly from its original source material, the books by Anne Rice. For instance, the character Moira Mayfair doesn’t exist in the books, but is a new creation based on Mona Mayfair. On her way to the New Orleans set, Jirrels picked up the second “Mayfair Witches” book, “Lasher,” which serves as a loose basis for Season 2. This has sparked her interest in reading more of Anne Rice’s books, but she’s got quite a bit to read to catch up!
On the following episode of “Mayfair Witches,” you’ll have a chance to meet the Jirrels, airing this Sunday on AMC. Don’t miss out! Also, keep an eye out for other thrilling horror TV series coming soon.
