I'm Way More Excited About AEW Right Now, And There Are A Few Big Reasons Why

As a longtime wrestling fan and someone who has followed All Elite Wrestling (AEW) since its inception, I must say that the energy surrounding AEW right now is electric! It’s like being transported back to the days of ECW, where every move felt dangerous and unpredictable.

I love AEW. It’s what got me back into professional wrestling after years of ignoring it.

To put it frankly, I can’t deny feeling a bit fatigued towards the brand over the last couple of years. Yet, I’ve penned pieces expressing my concerns about AEW. However, after experiencing an unprecedented level of excitement in the past few weeks, I am eager to share all the fantastic aspects of AEW that currently captivate me!

frankly, I find myself deeply engrossed once again in every shift of the championship titles, and eagerly anticipating the upcoming pay-per-views. To put it simply, I’m thoroughly immersed in AEW again! Here’s why.

First Off, Bobby Lashley And The Hurt Syndicate Is A Big Deal

In my previous viewing of WWE, The Hurt Business was making quite an impact. This group consisted of MVP, Shelton Benjamin, Bobby Lashley, and Cedric Alexander, who were among my favorite factions during the ThunderDome era.

After that point, Shelton Benjamin departed from WWE in 2023, while MVP and Bobby Lashley’s agreements ended in 2024. However, Cedric Alexander remains part of the organization.

It appeared almost certain that Bobby Lashley would rejoin forces with his fellow Hurt Business members, given that Shelton Benjamin made his AEW debut alongside MVP in early October.

Reality unfolded as Lashley joined the elite ranks during Fright Night Dynamite at the end of October. When he assaulted Swerve Strickland, it became clear that the Hurt Business had made a comeback.

But now, they’re the Hurt Syndicate. Even so, that’s just a different name for a similar outfit.

I’m thoroughly enjoying it! Previously, I penned an article featuring my top picks for AEW’s Tag Teams, and it’d be fantastic if Lashley and Benjamin could dominate together in AEW. Their presence has rekindled a spark within AEW that I haven’t felt in ages, and I’m eagerly anticipating their performance at Full Gear later this month.

Heel Moxley Is The Best Moxley

I don’t share Jim Cornette’s disdain for Jon Moxley; on the contrary, I admire him. Although I wouldn’t classify Moxley as an entirely good character in wrestling terms (similar to how I wouldn’t categorize “Stone Cold” Steve Austin as a purely good character), I find myself rooting more for Moxley when he plays the villain, which seems to be his current role.

At All Out, I left fans stunned when I betrayed Bryan Danielson, covering his head with a plastic bag – a moment that truly took everyone by surprise. Now, I’m elevating the Death Riders (previously known as the Blackpool Combat Club) to uncharted territories. With Bryan out and Pac and Marina Shafir joining forces with Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli, we’re ready to conquer new heights together.

Which is totally badass. I know there are people out there who like to compare AEW to latter day WCW (I don’t see it, but I know those people exist), but one storyline I kind of do see AEW aping from WCW is the NWO saga, in which mainstay wrestlers try to overtake the promotion and reshape it in their image. The Death Riders have always been doing that, but Danielson once provided an anchor in that role as he wanted to improve the rest of the locker room.

It appears that Mox might be trying to take over the brand, as he senses vulnerability within its members. He definitely comes across as a formidable villain, and it’s intriguing to see how the Death Riders will measure up against other villainous groups such as The House of Black and the Hurt Syndicate. It remains to be seen if they’ll join forces, but I’ll be eagerly watching each episode to find out how the story unfolds.

Private Party Winning The Tag Team Championship Is So Well Deserved

I love the Young Bucks. That might be a weird way to start this off, but I find that they’ve always been willing to put over other wrestlers if it’s what’s best for the company. In the past, we’ve seen some interesting tag teams get the belts, but I don’t think I ever considered Private Party becoming the Tag Team Champions.

It’s puzzling that their efforts have consistently yielded excellent performances, as Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen have never given a dull or uninteresting show – it’s always entertaining watching them.

In essence, throughout their career, they’ve often taken on supporting roles in promotions, typically boosting others rather than being the main focus themselves. To illustrate, when Keith Lee first appeared in AEW (I wonder where he is currently, I hope he’s alright), he single-handedly overpowered Private Party to instantly garner crowd favor.

In a similar fashion, there have been instances where a Private Party was left vulnerable and attacked. Hence, it was quite refreshing to witness Private Party engage in a feud with The Young Bucks, and even manage to beat them.

I felt joyful when The Adored, who are widely admired, claimed the Tag Team Championship title, but my happiness has multiplied now that Private Party is getting their moment to excel. Just as the crowd echoed their triumph with chants, they truly deserve this victory. By the way, I must mention the spectators…

The Crowds Are As Electric As Ever

One thing that has kind of gotten me down about AEW is the internet.

Indeed, I understand your sentiment. It seems wise to focus on the product itself rather than letting skeptics and doubters affect my spirits. However, it can be challenging not to be swayed by images of less-than-full stadiums or arenas filled with empty seats.

This situation seems to have drained my motivation, as it gives me the impression that All Elite Wrestling (AEW) may be struggling. It’s one of several factors causing me concern regarding the brand.

To be totally honest, I didn’t think AEW was doing this well, but boy, was I wrong! They just sealed a deal with MAX, and it looks like the curtains for them closing shop are far from being drawn. As a gamer, I can’t help but feel excited about the future of professional wrestling with such a vibrant promotion around.

That said, it’s the crowds themselves, reduced as they are, that is bringing back my hope.

The crowd remains just as passionate today, despite my own energy levels not being at their previous promotional peak. However, it feels like their excitement has never waned. They continue to infuse vitality into our business, and all one needs to do is tune in to their energy.

I Feel Like AEW Finally Realized That They Don’t Need To Be In Competition With WWE Anymore, And Are Now Doing Their Own Thing

Lastly, and this is a big one for me, but I really feel like AEW is truly coming into its own. I know this might sound strange since AEW is still acquiring former WWE stars, but I don’t know. There is something very different about the product now that I just feel is palpable.

After seeing Bryan Danielson’s “plastic bag-over-the-head” move in a match, it made me realize this point. Watching the Vince McMahon documentary on Netflix reminded me of how wild WWE used to be, but I don’t believe there was ever a time when WWE would have permitted a wrestler to perform such an action on Danielson as Moxley did.

I would never let my children watch AEW because, despite their intelligence, I don’t want them to think that putting a plastic bag over someone’s head is safe or acceptable in any way. In fact, some of the moves in AEW remind me of the old ECW days where each move seemed dangerous enough to potentially end a wrestler’s career, if not their life.

It appears that All Elite Wrestling (AEW) seems to have shifted its strategy, moving away from the notion of being a rival to WWE. Instead, they’ve opted to establish their unique identity without directly competing with their main competitor. Their initial audience remains loyal, and it seems they are planning for a long-term presence in the wrestling industry.

However, I’m curious about your thoughts. Are you still following All Elite Wrestling (AEW)? Don’t forget to drop by regularly for the latest updates on everything related to AEW.
