As a devoted follower, I’ve been away from the limelight of the film industry for more than a decade, but my last on-screen appearance was in Katti Batti with Kangana Ranaut in 2015. Meanwhile, my esteemed uncle Aamir Khan has maintained his powerful presence in Bollywood, marking over four decades in the industry. In a recent conversation, I shared my thoughts about Aamir’s illustrious career, acknowledging that many of his ’90s films are legendary, yet some, particularly Raja Hindustani, carry problematic moments and become challenging to watch due to certain scenes that cause discomfort.

In a chat with Filmfare, Imran Khan shared how his uncle Aamir Khan has left a substantial impact on both his private and career life. Yet, according to reports, he admitted that not every movie of Aamir’s resonates with him, especially those from the 90s.

As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I can’t help but notice how some of these classic films don’t quite hold up as well as they used to. When I rewatch them with a modern perspective, I find that they sometimes seem problematic and awkward. Take Raja Hindustani for instance, a film that was once a massive box office hit, yet now, certain scenes just don’t sit right with me or today’s sensibilities. They feel uncomfortable and inappropriate by today’s standards.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d say it this way: In my opinion, some of Aamir Khan’s films from the ’90s might not resonate as strongly today due to shifting societal norms. For instance, Raja Hindustani (1996), directed by Dharmesh Darshan, is one such film. This classic features Aamir Khan alongside a talented cast including Karisma Kapoor, Suresh Oberoi, Johnny Lever, Farida Jalal, Navneet Nishan, and Mohnish Behl.

Besides crediting Aamir for being instrumental in his acting career development, Imran mentioned that Aamir served not only as a mentor but also had a profound personal impact on him. He further stated that Aamir’s advice has been a consistent source of support, particularly during challenging periods in his life.

When confronted with tough decisions, I find myself questioning, “What would Aamir choose in this situation?” Though our paths and perspectives might not always align, I deeply respect Aamir’s steadfast dedication to upholding integrity and staying true to himself.

It was observed that Aamir’s fundamental beliefs – always adhering to what is ethically right and storytelling truthfully – have significantly shaped the principles he personally abides by.

Through his production company, Aamir Khan Productions, Aamir Khan has supported several films by Imran, such as Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (2008) and Delhi Belly (2011). There’s been talk about a potential acting comeback for Imran, but Aamir remains busy with various future projects like Sitaare Zameen Par.
