In a recent interview, Imtiaz shared that Diljit had shared the story of his upcoming 2023 movie, Jodi, with him before they worked together on Amar Singh Chamkila.
In his chat with Mid-Day, Imtiaz Ali disclosed how he approached Diljit Dosanjh for the main character in his movie, Amar Singh Chamkila. Imtiaz explained that Diljit previously worked on a film called Jodi, which is based on the life of Chamkila. Furthermore, he mentioned that Diljit showed him certain scenes from the upcoming 2023 period film.
“It was surprising when I shared the tale of Chamkila with him; he responded as if he had been waiting for just such an opportunity, saying ‘if you want me to make this film, I’m ready.’ However, he also mentioned the story of Jodi, suggesting that I consider him because he had already worked on it.”
In a statement, the director of Amar Singh Chamkila revealed that he approached Diljit to tell his film story, but surprisingly, Diljit already shared the tale of Jodi with him prior to their 2024 movie collaboration. It was mentioned that Diljit had a deeper understanding of Chamkila than Imtiaz, the filmmaker himself.
Under the guidance of director Amberdeep Singh, the Punjabi romantic comedy film titled Jodi was unveiled last year. This period piece featured Diljit Dosanjh and Nimrat Khaira as its main actors. In the 2023 movie, Diljit portrayed the character of Amar Singh Sitaara.
The biographical film titled “Amar Singh Chamkila” was released on various digital platforms this year, specifically on April 12, and is now available for streaming on Netflix. In this film, Diljit plays the lead role of Amar Singh Chamkila, while Parineeti portrays his second wife, Amarjot Kaur. The movie is based on the life of a well-known Punjabi folk musician by the same name.
Previously, Diljit Dosanjh has acted in films such as Udta Punjab, Arjun Patiala, Phillauri, Soorma, Good Newwz, and Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari. This year, prior to his role in Amar Singh Chamkila, he was seen in Rajesh A Krishnan’s film titled Crew, alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu, and Kriti Sanon.
