Ingrid Andress Apologizes for Home Run Derby National Anthem Performance: “That Was Not Me Last Night”

As a longtime fan of country music, I’ve had the pleasure of discovering and following Ingrid Andress’s journey in the industry with great admiration. Her raw talent and unique voice have captivated me since her debut, and I’ve been excited to see her rise as a three-time Grammy-nominated artist.

Ingrid Andress has spoken out about her disputed rendition of the national anthem during the Home Run Derby event.

I’m open about admitting that I had too much to drink the previous night. Concerned about my well-being, I’ve decided to seek professional help and will be checking myself into a treatment center today.

After realizing she didn’t live up to expectations, she expressed regret by saying, “I’m sorry for my subpar performance last night. My apologies go out to MLB, the fans, and this nation that I hold dear for that less-than-ideal showing. I’ll keep you updated about my rehab process – supposedly it’s quite enjoyable.”

Her post was met with plenty of support from fans.

As a big fan of country music, I was really looking forward to seeing a three-time Grammy-nominated singer perform the National Anthem at the Arlington, Texas home-run hitting competition on Monday. However, I was left feeling disappointed when her rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner” didn’t live up to my expectations. In a video that quickly went viral, Alec Bohm, the Philadelphia Phillies third baseman, could be seen trying to hide his amusement at the performance. The crowd also expressed their disapproval with audible jeers as the singer struggled to hit the high notes. Many people have since compared her version unfavorably to Fergie’s controversial rendition from the 2020 NBA All-Star Game. I, too, found myself longing for a more pitch-perfect performance that truly honored our National Anthem.

Although Andress may not be widely recognized, she’s far from a newcomer in the music scene. With four Grammy nominations under her belt, she made headway in the competitive best new artist category in 2021, sharing the stage with future stars like Phoebe Bridgers and Doja Cat; Megan Thee Stallion ultimately took home the award. Andress boasts two Billboard Hot 100 hits: “More Hearts Than Mine” and “Wishful Drinking.” Furthermore, she collaborated on Charli XCX’s hit “Boys” and Bebe Rexha’s “Girl in the Mirror.”
