A person who invests in cryptocurrencies unfortunately suffered a phishing incident on the Ethereum network last week, resulting in a significant loss of approximately $180,000 in USD Coin (USDC) and ANDY, a freshly minted meme coin based on Pepe. According to Etherscan’s records, this unfortunate event took place on April 23rd.
Warning: #PeckShieldAlert #Phishing Scam! The wallet address 0x36B4…7703 has been tricked into sending approximately $162,400 worth of $ANDY (around $1.6 million) and $18,000 in $USDC to the fraudulent addresses #Fake_Phishing187019 and #Fake_Phishing188615 due to a successful phishing attack.

The analysis of transaction records indicates that the perpetrators of a phishing scam merged multiple seemingly benign functions into a single transaction. Isolated, these functions appear innocuous; however, their collective execution facilitates malicious activity.
The victim’s address received numerous unwanted transactions, resulting in transfers to various hacker-controlled wallets that had been flagged as phishing sites by Etherscan. In the end, the victim suffered a loss of approximately 1.6 billion ANDY tokens, equivalent to $162,400, and 17,913 USDC.
The attack drained the victim’s account, leaving only $32 in value of Ethereum (ETH) and Arbitrum (ARB). One attacker kept the stolen funds at their disposal, while the other, in possession of all the ANDY tokens, instantly exchanged them for WETH on Uniswap and later transferred the WETH to a different wallet.
It’s possible that the attack took advantage of the victim’s dealings with smart contracts. Criminals sometimes design contracts that mimic regular Decentralized Finance (DeFi) functions, only to include hidden steps authorizing the transfer of a user’s tokens to themselves.
In February, approximately 57,000 individuals who are interested in cryptocurrency experienced financial losses totaling $46 million as a result of an increasing number of successful phishing attacks.
