I feel betrayed. I want to talk about it.
The third season of “Invincible” has been consistently challenging me with each episode. Although I managed to watch the first six episodes before talking to the cast, I missed out on the next two – just like everyone else, having to wait a week at a time. In an age when content is often binged, it’s refreshing to have a show that doesn’t all release at once on a streaming service.
Initially, Episode 7 titled “What Have I Done?” wasn’t expected until 2025, but now that it’s included in the TV schedule, I find myself frozen, unable to express my feelings because I’m overwhelmed by it all. Robert Kirkman and his team have once again surprised me, leaving me uncertain about how I should react. So, let’s discuss this together.
I Was Really Starting To Like Rex
Yeah, the fast one is Rex, let’s just get into it.
It’s no secret that I adore the series Invincible, and I can certainly vouch for its exceptional status among superhero shows. In fact, it ranks highly on Amazon Prime as one of their best offerings. The primary reason I hold it in such high regard is because, as Jason Mantzoukas mentioned during our chat, the creator Robert Kirkman – who also penned the Invincible comics – provides each character an opportunity to evolve. This was particularly evident in Season 3, where Rex, whom I had previously found rather off-putting due to his chauvinistic behavior, finally received a more developed storyline.
Indeed, in the final episode, he met his end – a selfless sacrifice that made the pain even more profound. Now, as I grapple with this loss, I find myself at a crossroads because, for the first time, I had truly begun to appreciate Rex. The intriguing backstory unveiled in Season 3 was captivating, but it’s vanished now.
Invincible pulled a fast one on me, and I’m not super happy about it,

It Felt Like His Death Was Placed There For Shock Value
Allow me to clarify at the outset that my familiarity with the “Invincible” comics is limited, as I haven’t read them all. If Rex meets his end in these comics, it was something I wasn’t aware of. However, even if that were the case, I imagine the writers handled it skillfully and without haste. The reason being, deaths in comic books often provide ample room for more extensive character exploration due to the extra space available.
Perhaps in the comics, you had a better understanding of the genuine character of Rex prior to his passing, making his death more impactful. Conversely, in the series, it seemed like his final act was merely intended to provide a dramatic effect by sacrificing him, rather than a true reflection of his nature.
Her demise in Season 5 of “The Walking Dead,” particularly Beth’s, brought back memories of one of the saddest character deaths. As we were gradually getting to understand her better in Season 4, she had amassed a significant fan base. However, it was quite shocking when, out of nowhere, during the midseason finale, she met her untimely end. The potential for her character to achieve great things was tragically cut short.
That’s how I feel with Rex… and I’m not sure how excited I am about this predicament.

But I Trust In Robert Kirkman… Even If His Shows Hurt Me Time And Time Again
As a movie enthusiast, my initial reaction is to shy away from such plot developments because I dislike it when shows resort to these unexpected twists. Don’t get me wrong, I’m game for shocking deaths, but when a character seems poised for a more substantial role and then vanishes so abruptly, it feels unsettling. If Rex had perished in Season 4, I might have found that outcome more palatable.
But this fast? This soon? I don’t know.
Despite my reservations, I have faith in Robert Kirkman’s storytelling abilities. He seldom lets me down, so I’m choosing to place my trust in him when it comes to Rex’s death having a significant impact, rather than being brushed aside or forgotten in the next episode. This is because I simply can’t handle another instance of such an event being overlooked.
Because he’s the brainchild behind the TV series as well, I trust it will be great. Despite the likelihood of tearing up during the final episode, I might instead concentrate on exploring Mark and Eve’s bond to cheer myself up in the meantime.
