Invincible’s Oliver Grayson: Unleashing His Hidden Powers in Season 3 – Is He a Threat?

In February 6, 2025, the third season of “Invincible” will be available on Prime Video. This means fans can look forward to seeing more of Oliver Grayson/Kid Omni-Man, portrayed by Lincoln Bodin as a toddler and Christian Convery as a tween. Oliver made his debut in Season 2, Episode 4 titled “It’s Been a While,” which was the highest-rated episode of the season on IMDb. Despite being related to the main character Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), Invincible, Oliver and Mark have distinct genetic backgrounds and physical abilities that shape their individual superpowers.

As Mark evolves and harmonizes his human traits with his Viltrumite lineage, it falls to Oliver to prevent his extraordinary alien genetics from transforming him into a harmful antagonist. To illustrate the differences between these two kin and their heroic strength, it could be interesting to delve into just how potent Oliver Grayson is and how potentially perilous he might become during Season 3.

Mark’s Strengths and Weaknesses

At the age of seventeen, Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) transforms into a superhero known as “Invincible.” This ordinary American teenager unexpectedly develops extraordinary abilities on his birthday, including immense strength, speed, endurance, flight, rapid recovery, and regeneration, among other powers stemming from his hybrid Human-Viltrumite ancestry.

Mark’s father, Nolan Grayson (J.K. Simmons), formerly acclaimed as Earth’s top superhero under the alias Omni-Man, was later exposed as an alien from the planet Viltrum. Now disgraced, he is struggling to maintain his reputation. As Mark strives to uphold his father’s legacy, he uses his newfound Viltrumite powers to vanquish foes. A volatile temper and a specific weakness to high-pitched sounds, along with the enigmatic scourge virus, pose significant challenges for him as a hybrid of Viltrum and human.

Outside his family circle, Mark associates himself with kind-hearted superheroes known as The Guardians of the Globe. Together with Gillian Jacobs’ character, Atom Eve, and Bodin, Convery’s character, Kid Omni-Man, he establishes Invincible Inc.

In this version, I aimed to simplify the sentence structure while maintaining the original meaning.

Who Is ‘Invincible’s Oliver Grayson?

In the second season, during episode 4 titled “It’s Been a While,” we are introduced to Oliver Grayson. He is the half-brother of Mark Grayson. Known as Kid Omni-Man in his superhero role, Oliver is actually the biological son of Nolan Grayson. Unlike Mark’s mother Debbie (played by Sandra Oh), who is a human, Oliver’s mother, Andressa (Rhea Seehorn), is an alien from planet Thraxa. Consequently, while Mark inherits his superpowers from his half-human, half-Viltrumite genetics, Oliver obtains his powers as a result of being a hybrid of Thraxan and Viltrumite origin.

Though Mark and Oliver possess distinct abilities due to their different alien lineages, their respective races hold contrasting ideologies and philosophies. The Viltrumites are aggressive conquerors, aiming to dominate the universe and establish a vast Viltrumite Empire. On the other hand, the Thraxans are diplomatic aliens who advocate for peaceful coexistence with others. However, Oliver’s powerful Viltrumite genes have gradually taken precedence over his Thraxan traits, transforming him more into a pure-blooded Viltrumite rather than a hybrid. Apart from the cosmetic purple skin that resembles Baby Thanos, Oliver’s mixed Thraxan-Viltrumite genetic makeup aligns his superpowers with the latter alien species.

How Strong & Dangerous Is Oliver Grayson?

As a movie buff, let me share my thoughts on the captivating character of Oliver Grayson. Unlike most heroes, Oliver’s superpowers are intricately tied to his unique genetic makeup and the intentions of his extraterrestrial kin. With his Thraxan DNA taking a backseat to his Viltrumite blood, Oliver mirrors the same formidable powers as his brother Mark. These powers encompass superhuman strength, speed, endurance, durability, flight, and an astonishing capacity for rapid healing and regeneration. On the flip side, Oliver is equally susceptible to Mark’s Viltrumite vulnerabilities, such as exposure to high-frequency sounds and the brutal impact of immense force.

In essence, Oliver maintains unique Thraxan abilities that Mark lacks: rapid learning, prolonged life span, and self-sufficiency regarding air, food, and sleep. Additionally, Oliver acquires purple skin as a physical trait due to his Thraxan ancestry. On the other hand, Mark transforms from light to dark and grows more aggressive when he wears his new blue superhero outfit, an issue that both half-brothers address in Season 3. Lastly, Kid Omni-Man’s costume appears similar to Damian Wayne, Batman’s son.

In Kirkman’s comic, upon first meeting, Mark warmly accepts Oliver as his brother. However, to emphasize their disparities on the show, Mark hesitates to welcome Oliver until he has a private conversation with Andressa and gains insight into the compassionate nature of the Thraxans.

Absolutely, Mark demonstrates a better grip on his superpowers compared to his younger half-brother Oliver, who finds it challenging to manage his newfound abilities, often resulting in comedic situations. As a child grown into a teenager, Oliver is amusingly clumsy and less skilled at using his powers effectively against adversaries. Consequently, he isn’t particularly threatening just yet, despite having Viltrumite powers.

In the third season, I’m eagerly anticipating the shift as my character, Kid Omni-Man (Oliver), steps up to share heroic duties with Invincible. This is because a leap of one year takes place in Season 3, meaning that Mark and I will be turning 19 when the series returns on February 6, 2025.
