Despite a mediocre debut episode and the controversy surrounding its premiere, Marvel’s Ironheart series has proven to be a surprisingly strong contender for the 2025 TV lineup. Given that it was initially slated for release two years ago, this success is particularly noteworthy. A significant part of the enduring excitement has been generated by the highly anticipated entry of the comic book character Mephisto into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and his pact with Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams in the series finale.
Initially, it might appear that Riri striking a deal with the MCU’s soul-taking villain is a risky move for the young hero. This is despite the sinister figure apparently granting her most coveted wish: to revive Lyric Ross’ character, Natalie, in a physical body once more. The ominous marks that appear on Riri’s arm at the end of the finale, along with her ties to Iron Man and her unique blend of technology and sorcery, seem to suggest that Riri may indeed be heading towards a path of villainy.
Slow down, because there seems to be a common belief that overlooks a crucial detail about Mephisto from the Ironheart finale, which might make viewers hesitant about his ability to disrupt the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) during Phase 6 and beyond. It’s wise to remember that pacts with the devil rarely turn out favorably for anyone involved.
Mephisto’s Deal With Parker Wasn’t Exactly A Raging Success
In a way that hinted at Riri unconsciously striking a Faustian pact, Ironheart suggested that she did so merely for the opportunity to meet her best friend in person rather than just through A.I. holograms. However, the particulars of this deal’s terms remain vague, as well as its potential future consequences. In contrast, Parker’s agreement with Mephisto is clearly defined.
In a different phrasing, Anthony Ramos’ character, Ronheart, yearned for power, riches, and recognition, which Mephisto appeared to bestow upon him through the enchanted hood. However, contrary to Parker initially being portrayed as a successful billionaire playboy, the story didn’t start off that way. Despite relishing his position as “The Hood,” Parker faced continuous struggles. Although his team members obeyed his commands, their sentiments veered far from admiration, as the hood’s magic increasingly warped his personality.
In other words, when Riri decided to actively thwart Parker rather than continue to be part of his plans and tricks, her intelligence and resourcefulness swiftly dismantled Mephisto’s control over him, rendering his offers of additional power insignificant. Therefore, given that Parker emerged from their deal with no lasting power, wealth, or respect, isn’t it reasonable to assume that Riri’s own arrangement will not fare any better?

Fan Theories Suggest Natalie’s Return Could Set Up Tony Stark’s Doomed Resurrection, But I’m Iffy About It
Towards the end of the final episode of Ironheart, excluding the post-credits scene featuring Parker and Zelma, Riri is depicted diligently using her intellect with her Ironheart suit in the foreground. Interestingly, Mephisto’s hood is casually placed nearby. Additionally, Riri bears enigmatic scars on her arm while embracing Natalie, hinting at a troubling future for our brilliant protagonist. This scene also subtly introduces a fresh concept of magical revival within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which perhaps the inhabitants of Westview would have found more appealing compared to their own experiences in WandaVision.
In some fan theories within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it is suggested that Mephisto may have orchestrated the drive-by shooting that claimed Natalie and Riri’s stepfather’s life, as a manipulative move to push Riri into making a desperate deal to resurrect her friend. This hypothetical pact could potentially bring Tony Stark back, but with consequences reminiscent of “The Monkey’s Paw” and “Pet Sematary,” leading to the rise of Victor Von Doom and an armored, morally compromised Riri standing by his side.
While I find your theory intriguing, let me clarify my stance. Despite its potential validity, I remain skeptical because Natalie passed away prior to Mephisto’s emergence in Riri’s storyline. Even if Mephisto possesses a unique perspective on time, I believe he’d have more efficient methods to achieve his aims without relying on intermediaries like Parker. Moreover, considering the widespread grief following Tony Stark’s demise in Avengers: Endgame, it seems implausible that Riri would be singled out for such a crucial role when countless others could potentially strike a deal with Mephisto to resurrect him.

Ironheart’s Future Is Unknown, But I Don’t Think Riri And Mephisto Are Destined For Avengers: Doomsday At All
Dominique Thorne and Sacha Baron Cohen have not been announced as cast members in the upcoming movie “Avengers: Doomsday,” nor has there been any official confirmation of their involvement. Additionally, neither actor is currently at the center of significant rumors regarding the film. Given that the complete cast for “Doomsday” may not be revealed until the movie’s release, it is possible that characters like Riri and Mephisto could make their Avengers debut in a future film, particularly since there has been no update on the status of “Ironheart.
While Kevin Feige & Co. made changes in their plans for connecting Disney+ shows and theater releases later on, the series was still produced earlier. Its release was adjusted to function as a conclusion for Phase 5. So far, most of the Mephisto-related anticipation has come from the streaming TV side, with shows like “WandaVision” and “Agatha All Along” providing the majority of speculation material.
While Riri Williams initially appeared in Black Panther 2, I believe Ironheart is a character that thrives in an episodic format. She may be better off reappearing in a second season or another series featuring a different team of heroes instead of the Avengers. Moreover, her technological skills could potentially aid Agatha and Billy Maximoff in their search for Billy’s brother Tommy. Just my thoughts on it.
In other words, while I could be mistaken, it’s possible that Mephisto could command an army of Ironheart duplicates against Thor, Hawkeye, and other heroes in the future. Similarly, Deadpool might assume Professor X’s position leading the X-Men, or something equally unforeseen could happen, such as Marvel’s Blade film being produced at last. We’ll simply have to be patient until Avengers: Doomsday appears on the 2026 movie schedule on December 16, or until Marvel provides a credible update on their Disney+ series, whichever arrives first.
