Irrfan Khan’s wife Sutapa Sikdar reveals son Babil Khan is ‘almost in depression’; says, ‘Mere bacche ko chor do’

As a lifestyle expert with decades of personal and professional experience under my belt, I can empathize deeply with Sutapa Sikdar‘s concerns about her son Babil Khan. Having been through the ups and downs of the entertainment industry myself, I understand the immense pressure that comes with following in the footsteps of a legendary figure like Irrfan Khan.

The late, exceptionally gifted actor Irrfan Khan left a lasting impact on our film industry. Similar to his father, Babil Khan has made his debut in the same field. Lately, Sutapa Sikdar, Irrfan’s wife and writer-producer, disclosed that their son is close to experiencing depression due to continual comparisons with his renowned dad.

During a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Irrfan Khan’s wife, Sutapa Sikdar, expressed that their son, Babil Khan, is under an excessive amount of pressure due to the constant comparison to his late father. She stated that while her family continues to grieve the profound loss, she doesn’t believe it’s fair for Babil to bear such pressure in this manner.

Sutapa underscored the point that such stress shouldn’t exist, pointing out that Irrfan Khan didn’t experience it. She articulated her conviction: When you don’t burden them, their unique qualities emerge.

She expressed, “It’s not just about work, but also about the loss of a father figure, which seems to be causing deep sadness, almost like depression. There’s constant stress and pressure. As a mother, I plead, ‘Spare my child from this’. He is quite fragile and lacks the fighting spirit.

Sutapa acknowledged that she and her father were quite strong, implying they had some extraordinary traits. She then suggested that the actor Qala might have inherited these strengths genetically from somewhere. To elaborate her point, she brought up Junior Bachchan’s situation, explaining, “For instance, Abhishek Bachchan gave an outstanding performance in ‘I Want to Talk,’ but the comparisons to his legendary father, Amitabh Bachchan, seem to work against him.

As she explained, Babil is experiencing something comparable to what she’s going through, with the hope that he will get past it swiftly.

As a connoisseur of cinematic arts, I mourn the loss of the extraordinary talent that was Irrfan Khan, who left us too soon on April 29, 2020, in Mumbai following his battle with neuroendocrine cancer. His memorable performances in films such as Billu and Piku will continue to be cherished by film enthusiasts like myself for years to come.

In terms of his career, Babil first appeared as an actor in Qala, working alongside Triptii Dimri and Swastika Mukherjee. Subsequently, he was seen in Friday Night Plan and The Railway Men. Looking forward, it’s said that he will be part of Shoojit Sircar’s upcoming project, The Umesh Chronicles, sharing screen time with the legendary Amitabh Bachchan.
