Film director Hansal Mehta recently expressed his views on the current status of Bollywood and the promising new talents who are influencing its future direction. On social media platform X (previously known as Twitter), he wrote an extensive post, highlighting that Indian cinema in Hindi, particularly Bollywood, requires a fresh start or change. Among the upcoming stars he mentioned were Vedang Raina, Adarsh Gourav, and Zahan Kapoor.

After director Vivek Agnihotri stated, “It’s great that Bollywood is collapsing,” Hansal made a comment not long afterward.

The filmmaker commented, “To those foretelling the demise of Bollywood, let’s hold on a moment. The industry isn’t perishing; instead, it’s poised for disruption.” He explained that it’s trapped in a loop of familiar choices and repetitive patterns, stating, “The issue isn’t audiences growing bored. It’s that resources are being directed towards the safe, the repeated, the formulaic.

Mehta underscored the importance of raw talent, daring storylines, and directors who can breathe life into scripts with passion for shaping the future of Hindi cinema. In his opinion, the recent years have demonstrated that stardom by itself doesn’t guarantee an audience; instead, it’s the power and authenticity of the storyline that truly captivates people.

Additionally, he stated his conviction that a fresh generation of performers, creators, and storytellers are poised to reshape the entertainment sector. However, significant transformation necessitates visionary producers, broadcast outlets that emphasize narratives over algorithms, and directors who appreciate authenticity over repetition.

Spotlighting rising stars, Hansal Mehta stated, “These are some of the individuals (males for now, more on females such as actors, directors, and writers later) who pop into my mind while I write this. They’re individuals who deserve trust, not doubt—for if given the right guidance, they are the future.

Afterwards, the director mentioned several promising newcomers, starting with Adarsh Gourav, who has earned international acclaim. He also noted that Vedang Raina made a strong impression in “Jigra”. Additionally, he spoke highly of Ishaan Khatter, Zahan Kapoor, Aditya Rawal, Sparsh Shrivastava, Abhay Verma, Lakshya, and Raghav Juyal for their remarkable work in films and series.

Mehta’s point is straightforward: instead of focusing solely on box office success, producers should prioritize investing in authentic storytelling and talented performers. He suggests that what cinema truly requires isn’t rescue, but a shift in focus to new, meaningful priorities.
