Numerous enthusiasts are pondering if the newest version of Elden Ring, Nightreign, presents a tougher challenge compared to its previous iterations. Let’s explore and clarify this question in our discussion below.
The games produced by FromSoftware are well-known for their challenging nature, with Elden Ring: Nightreign being the newest addition to this series. In contrast to previous titles, the developers have incorporated a cooperative roguelike gameplay style while maintaining the original Elden Ring as its foundation. Nightreign introduces fresh challenges, new characters known as Nightlords, and levels of difficulty that will catch both seasoned players and newcomers off guard.
As a seasoned gamer, I’ve been asked whether Elden Ring: Nightreign is tougher than its predecessors. My take? If you’re playing alone, it definitely is challenging. But if you’re part of a three-person team, it’s not as hard. The reason being, Nightreign has veered quite far from the traditional Soulsborne formula, making comparisons somewhat tricky. However, we’ll delve deeper into this in our upcoming article.
Elden Ring Nightreign is More Difficult If You Are Playing Solo
Elden Ring was created by FromSoftware with a focus on multiplayer and cooperative play, shaping its gameplay mechanics to favor multiple Nightfarers over solo players. This design choice is reflected in the game’s structure, where boss battles and Nightlords are often designed to be challenging for three players simultaneously. As such, a single player might find these encounters particularly daunting.
In other words, because of Nightreign’s characteristics, once players enter Limveld, they find themselves in a desperate struggle against the clock. Their goal is to collect as much treasure and vanquish as many foes as they can before time runs out, all while readying themselves for the ultimate showdown with the final boss.
For a single player, navigating this whole procedure might prove challenging, as they may find it tough to advance in levels or accumulate superior equipment. This difficulty could lead to a more challenging experience for them, primarily because of the constraints imposed by the time-limited and progression system.
Earlier FromSoftware games were primarily designed for solo play, which means they didn’t encounter the problems you’re referring to. While these games weren’t easy by any stretch, players could certainly conquer challenges through perseverance and character upgrades. Furthermore, in past Soulsborne titles, death was always harsh, but you could return to the boss fight reasonably quickly.
In Elden Ring, known as Nightreign, you won’t find this particular characteristic. Being a roguelike game, once you embark on an expedition, your objective is to endure numerous days to come face-to-face with the Nightlords. However, if you meet your demise, it sends you back to square one, forcing you to replay the entire sequence from the start – a process that might last up to 45 minutes.
Currently, the game allows members within a party to resurrect fallen comrades. Unfortunately, this feature is not available for solo players, making their deaths feel harsher and more disheartening.
Elden Ring Nightreign Co-op is Just as Difficult as Its Predecessors
Despite finding it challenging to draw comparisons between Elden Ring Nightreign and earlier FromSoftware games, I must say that having a full party makes the gameplay more manageable, although it remains difficult. With two additional players by your side, you’ll find navigating through common enemies much smoother. However, keep in mind that bosses and Nightlords will still pose significant challenges.
These games are specifically created for a group of three players and can effortlessly outmatch your team without any hassle. Noteworthy, the Nightlords are formidable opponents, defeating them is as challenging as vanquishing other tough bosses from the Soulsborne series.
As a devoted player of Elden Ring, I can confidently say that having companions by my side significantly eases the challenges posed by Nightreign. Gathering loot and navigating the tightening circle is a breeze compared to going solo. The camaraderie enhances the experience, making leveling up, crafting my character with the weapons and gear I discover along the way much more enjoyable.
Even though it’s challenging to assess Nightreign alongside its earlier versions due to its rapid character advancement compared to those games, playing it cooperatively makes it comparably tough like its predecessors.
