As a die-hard fan of “The Boys,” I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation when it comes to the potential returns of two beloved characters: Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott). Though both have been absent since the end of Season 3, neither was definitively killed off, leaving room for hope that they might make a triumphant comeback.
For those who haven’t yet watched “The Boys” on Amazon Prime, be advised that the following discussion may reveal plot details.
Over the course of its first four seasons, The Boys has experienced a significant turnover among its cast members. Many characters have met untimely and grisly ends. However, this is not the case for Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy and Dominique McElligott’s Maeve. Although they have been absent since the season 3 finale, neither character has been definitively killed off. References to both have emerged in the latter part of season 4, fueling speculation that one or both could make a notable comeback, perhaps in the final episodes of season 4 or even in season 5.
As a dedicated gamer, I’m excited to revisit the latest developments in the captivating storyline of Soldier Boy and Maeve from Amazon’s original series. Let’s take a closer look at where their stories were left hanging and what intriguing clues we’ve uncovered that might hint at their future appearances.
Why Soldier Boy’s Return Seems Possible
Jensen Ackles is the first choice for casting if your show plans to include him at some point. Realistically speaking, if there’s an opportunity to bring him back later, you should do it. That’s why “Tracker” invited him as a guest star, and why CBS drama will have him back in Season 2.
Another explanation: The second reason is just as simple to present: Soldier Boy effectively comes to life on screen, despite his less-than-admirable traits. He survived the end of Season 3, albeit unconscious after a massive explosion, giving Grace Mallory the opportunity to put him back in hibernation without public detection.
As a longtime fan of The Boys, I’ve grown accustomed to the gritty realism and unexpected twists that the show delivers with every episode. So when I watched Kimiko casually flipping through an old magazine in Episode 407, my heart skipped a beat as Soldier Boy’s face stared back at me from the cover.
Notably, Prime Video’s YouTube channel posted two videos highlighting Jensen Ackles’ character on their page. The first video was titled “The Boys Search for Soldier Boy” from Season 3, which seemed similar to other retro clips.
A few days prior to the Season 4 finale weekend, an intriguing video emerged online with the title “Jensen Ackles Unveiled as Soldier Boy.” This clip compiled the most memorable lines of the Soldier Boy character, carefully censored of any profanity. The entertaining presentation included a sneak peek of Jensen Ackles’ cameo in Gen V. While enjoying this video is an amusing pastime on its own, might there be a compelling reason to refresh viewers’ memories about Soldier Boy before a potential reappearance in the finale?
Based on my personal experiences and observations, I believe that the first two reasons given are strong arguments to answer the question at hand. However, despite this belief, I cannot help but hold onto a glimmer of hope that there might be more to consider. This hope stems from my own life experiences, where unexpected circumstances have often turned things around in surprising ways. While “Soldier Hope” may not make perfect sense grammatically, it represents the resilience and determination that I have seen in myself and others when faced with adversity.
Why Maeve’s Return Seems Possible
Acknowledging that the case for hoping Dominique McElligott’s Queen Maeve may come back isn’t as compelling as that for Soldier Boy is significantly weaker, primarily due to Amazon Prime Video failing to include any montages highlighting her notable actions. For instance, defeating Soldier Boy and rescuing numerous people at the cost of her own injuries.
As a devoted gamer, I can’t help but reflect on Maeve’s harrowing experiences in The Boys series. Despite appearing to have sustained a permanent eye injury and other gruesome damages, she’s somehow managed to survive. I hope and pray that she’s living happily away from Vought, under the new identity of “Maggie,” together with her partner Elena. However, it’s a bittersweet thought for me as a fan since I secretly wish for her return to shake up the storyline once more.
As someone who has spent years studying complex systems and patterns, I can’t help but be intrigued by the subtle clues hidden within the world of “The Boys.” And one such clue that stood out to me was Sister Sage’s actions after being expelled from The Seven.
If I were a fan eagerly following the storyline, and if Sage harbors a desire for revenge against Antony Starr’s character, then seeking out Maeve could be her most effective move in that situation. Her understanding of Maeve’s involvement with the other Supes might not be extensive yet, but it wouldn’t take much for her to surmise that Maeve took a stance against her Seven comrades. Moreover, approaching any member of The Boys would likely provide further evidence that Maeve is still alive and could offer valuable insights into her former ally’s current allegiance.
If we set aside all the previous points and imagine I’m just a devoted fan speaking, there’s still this profound quote from Eric Kripke that he shared with Variety during the Season 3 finale: “Even if none of this applied, I’d still be proud of what we did.”
I don’t think The Boys will end without Maeve showing up again…
There’s a good chance he might delay Maeve’s return until the last season, but I’m eagerly optimistic that her appearance in that journal serves as a hint. This isn’t just a hint due to her having only one eye now.
