Julia Stiles’ directorial debut, titled “Wish You Were Here”, currently playing in cinemas, features Isabelle Fuhrman as its leading lady. Recognizable to film enthusiasts from the two “Orphan” movies and her memorable role as Diamond in Kevin Costner’s initial “Horizon” installment last year, Fuhrman is set to captivate audiences once more in the sequel. As MovieWeb interviews Fuhrman during the release of her latest romantic movie under Stiles’ direction, she also shares glimpses of what we can anticipate in “Horizon: Chapter 2”.
Fuhrman shared with us that there is significantly more [Diamond] featured in the second movie. He expressed his gratitude for the Venice premiere and hinted that they are still deciding on the film’s direction. In other words, he’s not part of the decision-making process beyond being an actor. However, he’s excited about both films and can’t wait to see the final product.
Fuhrman also shared her thoughts on the newly announced third installment of the Orphan series, where she will be involved – sparking enthusiasm among fans for the well-liked series (Fuhrman and Stiles previously starred in Orphan: First Kill). “All I can say is, the script is strong, so I’m looking forward to it,” Fuhrman said, keeping quiet about additional details.
Growing Up Watching Julia Stiles’ Films
Meanwhile, Fuhrman changed direction by starring in a distinctive romantic drama film titled “Wish You Were Here“, which he acted alongside Mena Massoud. This movie was both written and directed by Stiles, a familiar face in Hollywood who is often behind the camera rather than in front of it.
When Stiles shared the script with me, she expressed her hope that I might take up the role of Charlotte. She mentioned how it would be great if I could star in a movie, allowing others to discover me as she has come to know me after our collaboration on Orphan,” Fuhrman explained.
I found it deeply moving since it’s often the case within this profession that individuals are typecast based on their genre. However, what struck me was her desire to challenge me by casting me in a romance film – the kind I’ve always adored and shared my affection for with her, as they all feature her.
In addition to being an executive producer on the film “Wish You Were Here”, Fuhrman expressed her feelings about her dual role alongside producer Gabby Kono-Abdy during our interview. She shared, “Gabby and I fell in love with making this movie, and when she was bringing people on board and casting, I recall… she said, ‘I truly believe Mena Massoud would be the ideal choice to play Adam.’ And I agreed, saying, ‘He would be fantastic!’ We then managed to secure him for the role.
In truth, my contributions to this film’s EP role were more about collaboration and conversation with her, connecting with the team, and learning the ropes from Gabby, Molly [Conners], our producers, and Julia. It was an immense privilege to be part of this process. I aim to make that transition to directing, and this journey has been a significant learning experience for me.
From Lionsgate, Wish You Were Here is now playing in theaters.
