‘It Feels Like A Christmas Romp.’ Nicholas Hoult And Seth Meyers Have All The Nosferatu Jokes Until The Actor Admits He Literally Got Chased By Wolves On Set

I must confess, as a connoisseur of cinematic terror, Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu has left an indelible mark on my heart (and possibly my nightmares). This is not your typical holiday fare; instead of mistletoe and mince pies, we have wolves, vampires, and a healthy dose of fear. The interview between Nicholas Hoult and Seth Meyers was a delightful mix of humor and horror, with the former jokingly referring to the film as a “Christmas romp.

In a departure from typical Christmas fare, Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, hitting cinemas tomorrow, is anything but a cheerful holiday release. Rather than offering festive joy or presents, it delivers chills and gruesome terror. This contrast was a popular topic during Nicholas Hoult’s recent interview with Seth Meyers, where he humorously dubbed the film as a “Christmas romp.” However, their conversation took a spooky turn when Hoult shared his genuine fears experienced while filming this horror production.

Last week, Nicholas Hoult appeared as a guest on the talk show “Late Night With Seth Meyers.” During their conversation about acting out terror in a role, the “Superman” actor disclosed that one specific scene in the movie didn’t necessitate any real “acting.” In the movie “Nosferatu,” Hoult plays Thomas Hutter, a real estate agent. In this film, there’s a scene where his character is pursued by wolves unleashed by Bill Skarsgård’s Count Orlok. Remarkably, genuine animals were utilized on set during the shooting of this scene, as confirmed by Hoult himself.

I had complete faith in Robert Eggers’ directing skills, so I felt confident when a genuinely terrifying moment came up during filming – the scene where we had wolves chasing my character out of Count Orlok’s castle. As I frantically tried to evade them while running on the spot and preparing for the shot, the wolves were held back by leashes, snarling menacingly with a hunger that was palpable in their eyes. It felt like they were ready to attack at any moment.

In the filming of Nosferatu, Thomas Hutter character was once caught off-balance and stumbled during a chase scene through narrow passageways. The production team had to halt and redo that specific take because Nicholas Hoult unintentionally made a funny expression at that instant. Upon watching the playback later, Hoult noticed that he portrayed genuine fear on camera, as he suddenly became aware that if wolves had truly pursued him in that scene, he wouldn’t have known the outcome. This realization made him continue with a more authentic performance.

Initially, I exclaimed, ‘Whew, this is quite intense!’ Then, in a moment of panic, I stumbled and almost fell while trying to escape through a window as they pursued me relentlessly. Thankfully, I managed to get away. However, Rob called out, ‘Cut, cut, cut! No, you made a funny face. We can’t use that.’ He then showed me the footage, and my expression was one of horror, like ‘Wheeew!’ I tried to explain, ‘Yeah, that’s not ideal, but just so you know, that’s genuine fear.’ This is because I hadn’t asked about what would happen if the wolves caught me.

Nicholas Hoult also acknowledges that he didn’t receive an answer to the crucial question in question. It’s quite unsettling to ponder, yet it implies that his encounter with the wolves was merely a close shave; they never managed to catch up to him.

Beginning December 25th, moviegoers everywhere can immerse themselves in the intense terror of Nosferatu, as it will be screening in cinemas nationwide. The film boasts an impressive cast including Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, and Willem Dafoe. Critics have given it glowing reviews, but if you’re still on the fence about attending, take a look at my four-star TopMob review of this chilling vampire flick to help make up your mind.
