'It Was A Really Great Experience': Christopher Reeve's Son Confirms Cameo In James Gunn's Superman Honoring His Late Father

As a huge fan of Superman and the rich history of this iconic character, I couldn’t be more thrilled to hear about Will Reeve’s cameo in James Gunn’s upcoming DC Universe film. This news brings a unique blend of nostalgia and excitement for what’s to come.

As a passionate gamer and an avid fan of DC comics, I’m thrilled to share that come summer 2025, James Gunn’s “Superman” will mark the beginning of the film side of the new DC Universe. The anticipation is real with an impressive roster of talent gracing the big screen – David Corenswet stepping into the Man of Steel’s shoes and Nicholas Hoult bringing Lex Luthor to life. And that’s not all! In a heartwarming homage to Superman’s cinematic heritage, Will Reeve, son of the legendary Christopher Reeve, will make a cameo appearance in the movie. Having worked on this project myself, I can confirm Will’s involvement and share his moving experience as he pays tribute to his late father.

Set photos taken in Cleveland, Ohio this past week unveiled Reeve’s involvement in “Superman.” In line with reality, it appears he will portray a news reporter on TV in the upcoming movie. He publicly acknowledged his cameo during an interview with TMZ. When asked about the origins of this opportunity, he disclosed:

The filmmakers are friends of mine, and they’ve been very generous to my family and me. Since I had some extra time, we went ahead and arranged for the production to take place.

Christopher Reeve may not have been the initial live-action Superman, but his portrayal of Kal-El/Clark Kent in the late 70s and early 80s made him a beloved icon for many. His take on the Man of Steel has remained influential in Superman media history. Although Reeve himself became wheelchair-bound after an accident in 1995, he continued his connection to the Superman universe by appearing as Virgil Swann in two “Smallville” episodes. Sadly, Reeve passed away in 2004 at age 52, nine years after his riding accident left him paralyzed from the waist down. In this new interconnected narrative, Reeve’s Superman legacy will be acknowledged through Will Reeve’s involvement. It’s fortunate that Chris had the day off to visit the set before his untimely death.

Will Reeve, who’s accustomed to being in front of the camera as an ABC News correspondent, confessed that working on “Superman” project brought about some jitters for him for a particular reason.

The experience was truly wonderful; the people were incredibly warm and welcoming. It went by swiftly and effortlessly, yet performing in front of that large crowd and having to remember a single line made me more anxious than my usual TV appearances. Nevertheless, it was an exceptional occasion.

Reeve shared that he intends to continue his daily job as a TV news reporter, yet he’s open to taking on more roles as his reporter character in shows like “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” and “The Brave and the Bold.” This could create an interesting connection between DC Universe stories. Reeve mentioned that these appearances wouldn’t take up too much of his time, similar to his cameo in “Superman.” It’s exciting to learn that he enjoyed working on Gunn’s upcoming film, and I can’t wait to find out which event the character is covering.

On July 11, 2025, the newest Superman film will take flight in cinemas. For those who want to revisit the classic Superman movies featuring Christopher Reeve, or explore other DC Universe offerings, a Max subscription grants you instant streaming access.
