’It Was Crazy.’ The Hilarious Response Marcello Hernández’s Family Had After He Met Sabrina Carpenter As SNL’s Domingo

If someone were to inquire about the most significant addition to Saturday Night Live (SNL) in recent years from my perspective, it would be Marcello Hernández. Known for his performances on Weekend Update and his popular character Domingo, Hernández has made a substantial impression. The smooth-talking Domingo has even gained enough fame to be invited to Sabrina Carpenter‘s concert to perform a bit. Interestingly, the popularity of this character has extended to real life, as Marcello Hernández actually met Sabrina Carpenter during her Short n’ Sweet Tour at the Kia Forum. To add to the amusement, Domingo participated in Carpenter’s tradition of “arresting” a “too hot” guest before singing her song “Juno.” Subsequently, Hernández shared the uproarious reaction his family had to this entire situation on The Tonight Show.

I found it utterly astonishing – something I had never even dreamed could happen. Truth be told, I didn’t create the sketch; it was the work of Ceara O’Sullivan, Jimmy Fowlie, and Sudi Green. Remarkably, I managed to take a few of them to the concert, where they got to witness it firsthand. It was absolutely surreal. Moreover, Allie Levitan was penning that piece. When I posted a picture with Sabrina, my aunts reacted with surprise: “Why haven’t we met her yet?

Wow, Marcello Hernández! It seems like you’ve landed yourself an opportunity to secure some free tickets for your aunts to see Sabrina Carpenter live! I can certainly understand the excitement stirring up among everyone, given that the real Domingo is set to perform at this concert. When a widely popular Saturday Night Live sketch intersects with its subject in such a grand manner, it’s no wonder fans and families alike will be left cheering!

With its fame for introducing numerous hilarious recurring characters, it’s thrilling to see Domingo now part of this legacy for today’s audience. He’s gained massive popularity for his antics, and it’s an added bonus that Carpenter is also in on the fun!

Initially appearing in an emotional manner during Ariana Grande’s “Bridesmaids Speech” sketch, the charming character made his entrance while the bridal party sang a humorous version of Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso.” This unexpected interruption revealed that the bride had a brief fling with Domingo during their bachelorette trip. In the midst of the song, this overly self-assured individual boldly declared, “She may be my sister, but we did have a romantic encounter!

In “Babymoon” with Charli XCX, Domingo sang an out-of-tune tune once more, admitting he’s the father of one of the bride’s twins! It seems the groom should consider a restraining order due to Domingo’s flirtatious behavior. Yet, as a spectator, I can’t get enough of his charisma.

Marcello Hernández might not have foreseen Domingo becoming such a sensation, yet his character’s flamboyant self-assurance and allure undeniably keep viewers eager for more. The native of Miami got a sense of Domingo’s popularity when just five minutes into his stand-up act, he reenacted the character to get it out of the way. However, what caught my attention in the TikTok video was witnessing the audience repeating the memorable catchphrases that the recurring SNL character frequently uses in his sketches.

If an audience can recite Domingo’s lines verbatim, it suggests that Hernández has mined comedy veins of purest quality, thereby earning a place among the legendary SNL talents whose comic genius will endure for eternity.

It appears that Marcello Hernández might need to catch up with Sabrina Carpenter following their viral concert encounter, which has put him in a position to arrange such a meeting with his aunts. If he were to introduce the “Please Please Please” singer as Domingo during this potential meeting, it would be an added treat! Keep your fingers crossed for that to happen for the comedian’s benefit and ours alike. In the meantime, remember to tune in to SNL50: The Anniversary Special on NBC or with a Peacock subscription on February 16th.
