‘It’ll Be Magical And Real Emotional’: Community’s Ken Jeong Shares Update On What’s Happening With The Long-Awaited Peacock Movie

As a devoted Community fan who has followed this series since its inception, I am beyond thrilled to hear about the progress of the long-awaited movie. The excitement building around it is akin to watching Abed Nadir’s paint dry – only with far more anticipation and less time spent.

Originally, Abed Nadir’s guess about the number of seasons for the brief-lived NBC show “The Cape” turned out to be a symbolic goal for fans of “Community“. The six seasons were achieved when the comedy series transferred to Yahoo! Screen for its last season. After many years of anticipation, it was confirmed in 2022 that a “Community” movie was underway. Now, approximately two years later, Ken Jeong has given an update on the Peacock-exclusive feature, hinting that it will be “full of magic and genuine emotion.

In an interview with TV Insider regarding his role in the Fox anthology series “Accused,” Jeong, who portrayed Ben Chang throughout the entire run of “Community,” stated that the long-awaited “Community” movie is not cancelled but rather progressing. He emphasized that it’s not a question of whether it will happen, but when it will. He further added:

There’s a script, there’s a plan, but the timing is still uncertain. When we finally decide on when to bring this to life, it will feel magical and incredibly emotional. I believe being back on set for that moment will be deeply fulfilling, words just don’t do it justice.

This update, arguably the largest since June when Dan Harmon, the creator of “Community”, mentioned a final revision on the script he was writing with Andrew Guest, seems to be substantially complete. Evidence for this comes from Ken Jeong confirming its existence and also sharing his reaction upon reading it.

It made me emotional, and just brought me right back, and that’s all I’m legally allowed to say.

The upcoming “Community” movie has officially confirmed the return of Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong. Yvette Nicole Brown and Donald Glover were also announced as returning cast members soon after. Last year, it was clarified that Chevy Chase will not be reprising his role due to his dislike for working on “Community”, a sentiment he’s expressed openly before.

Beyond the excitement of seeing these characters together again at Greendale Community College, I’m curious to discover what exactly moved Ken Jeong to tears upon reading the script. Plus, I can hardly wait to find out when filming for the Community movie will start so we can estimate a release date on Peacock. By the way, if you’re looking for a sitcom series that’s perfect for a marathon watch, all of Community is available on that same streaming service.
