Director Christopher Landon, of “Happy Death Day” and “Freaky” fame, is back with Blumhouse for their latest venture titled “Drop“. This upcoming thriller revolves around an innovative technology – AirDrop, which was first introduced by Apple in 2011. Typically used for playful pranks or confusing others in public areas, here it gains a sinister tone with its ominous beeping sound.
In the movie, powerhouses Jason Blum and Michael Bay are behind the production. The lead role is played by Meghann Fahy, a nominee for an Emmy Award known for her work in “The White Lotus” and “The Good Daughter”. She portrays Violet, a widowed mother who’s venturing into dating after a decade. However, her night takes a dark turn as she starts receiving ominous photos and videos via AirDrop. The message is chilling: If she doesn’t murder her date, portrayed by Brandon Sklenar from “It Ends with Us”, it will lead to the deaths of innocent people, including her son, played by newcomer Jacob Robinson, and her babysitting sibling, Violett Beane from “The Flash”.
As a fan, I can’t help but be drawn into this film. From what I gather watching the trailer for Empire, it appears to be a deeply character-focused story. The protagonist is grappling with a troubled past and facing seemingly impossible challenges. To me, there’s no greater thrill in cinema than connecting with a character so profoundly that you can’t help but fall in love with them as they navigate their journey.
In a natural and easy-to-read way, we can say that Ed Weeks (“The Mindy Project”), Reed Diamond (“Moneyball”), Gabrielle Ryan (“Power Book IV: Force”), Jeffery Self (“Mack & Rita”), and Travis Nelson (“The Lake”) complete the cast by playing staff members and patrons within the restaurant where much of the story unfolds.

The main appeal lies in its anonymity; it can’t be traced,” Landon pointed out. “What initially drew me in was the straightforwardness of the concept. I found it both contemporary and reminiscent of classic, Hitchcock-style suspense. Our team were having dinner when they started receiving mysterious AirDrop transmissions from within the restaurant. They spent the entire evening trying to unravel the mystery of who was sending these messages, but couldn’t determine the sender.
When does Drop open in theaters?
As a fervent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the brilliant minds behind “Truth or Dare” and “Fantasy Island”, Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach, have crafted a new masterpiece titled “Drop“. This captivating creation will hit theaters nationwide on April 11, graciously brought to us by Universal Pictures.
The film was produced by Blum, Bay, Brad Fuller, and Cameron Fuller.
